Refining

A player using the Refining skill at a Furnace.

Description

While the ore you unearth is nice and hard, you can't do anything with it if it contains metal, dirt, and sand mixed into it. Not only does it make it difficult to build metal products of adequate quality, it is also difficult to produce even any results. Therefore, in order to use metal, a process in which pure metal is gained from ore is essential. This is where the Refining skill comes in. Through this skill, you can gain pure metal ingots or bars from ore. Do note that you can only use this skill when there is a Furnace to melt the ore in.

Details

• Refining allows the player to convert raw Ores or Ore Fragments into Ingots and Ingots into Plates. Please see the Refining List for a list of items that can be created using Refining.
  • Despite what the skill's description says, Bars are not created through Refining. Instead, they are made through Blacksmithing.
  • Ingots cannot be made through mixtures of ores and ore fragments (e.g. Iron Ingot cannot be made with 3 Iron Ores and 2 Iron Ore Fragments).
• Requires an active Furnace as well as nothing equipped in the right hand (e.g., weapons, tools, magic powders, etc.) in order to use.
  • However, refining can be used with shields, guard cylinders, or any other item equipped in the left hand.
• Higher Dexterity, as well as Production Mastery, increases the success rate of this skill.
• With higher Skill level, you can refine more kinds of Ores (and their Fragments):
  • Iron Ore: Rank F or higher
  • Copper Ore: Rank C or higher
  • Silver Ore: Rank A or higher
  • Gold Ore: Rank 8 or higher
  • Mythril Ore: Rank 6 or higher
• Beginning with Rank 5, each Rank lets you refine one more kind of Plate in the same order as the Ores (so Iron Plate are unlocked at Rank 5, Copper Plate at Rank 4, ...)

• There is a Reforge Bonus on Gloves which can give boosted training EXP for refining; each Refining EXP level on the Reforged Item grants (10% per reforge level) more experience gained for each skill requirement done.
  • For example, with a Reforge Refining EXP Bonus level 2 provides, a skill requirement which usually gives 1.00 Skill Training will give 1.20 Skill Training.
