Polar Vortex

Traps enemies within a violent storm of Dorcha and ice elementals. A large vortex pulls enemies in and deals continuous damage to them for a set period of time. It's strong enough to trap enemies who've been knocked back by a different skill. During the storm's duration, there is nothing the enemy can do to escape; they must endure the storm's attack.

Details

  • Requires a Wand or Staff to use.
  • The user summons a storm of Ice and Dorcha at the target location, dealing damage to all enemies within its range at specific intervals and pulls enemies vulnerable to knockback towards the center of the vortex.
    • Enemies further away from the center take reduced damage, with higher ranks of this skill having lower damage loss when hitting enemies at the edge of its range.
    • The vortex will deal damage and knockback at more frequent intervals as the skill's rank increases.
  • Enemies vulnerable to knockback that are caught within the vortex are trapped and cannot run out of it or be knocked out of it by other skills.
    • The user and other players can freely bombard the trapped enemies with skills like Fireball without worrying about scattering the enemies. Even skills like Wind Blast cannot force trapped enemies out of the vortex.
    • As this skill knocks the enemy back (and not down), it is highly effective at dealing with Lightning Slime since none of the hits will trigger its damage immunity.
  • Enemies that are immune to being knocked back cannot be pulled by Polar Vortex, although they will still receive damage if they are standing within it.
    • Enemies that can teleport can escape the suction, although this can be overcome to a certain degree if the user stands inside their own Polar Vortex, as teleporting enemies tend to move next to the user, ensuring they stay within the vortex.
    • Enemies like Tathlum can roll out of the vortex as their Spin Dash makes them immune to knockbacks and knockdowns. This can be avoided if the user uses Crisis Escape or a similar ability to ensure they do not have a target to lock onto.
  • Requires Dorcha and Mana to load the skill, however neither of them are consumed until the user clicks the ground to place the vortex.
    • If the user has insufficient Dorcha or Mana, the skill cannot be used.
  • The user is completely immobile while casting Polar Vortex, as well as having it loaded and while summoning the vortex.
  • The skill's casting time can be reduced by effects that would work on regular Magic skills, such as weapon upgrades, Casting Speed Reforges, and Vivace.
  • The user's Ice Spear damage is added to this skill's damage, adding a total equivalent to 1 charge of Ice Spear per hit.
    • Effects that strengthen Ice Spear such as its Reforges and Blue Echostone lines will contribute their damage to Polar Vortex.
  • 30% of the user's Ice Spear explosion radius is added to this skill's range.
    • Effects that increase the explosion radius include the reforge present on gloves and Blue Echostone, as well as the Ice Spear Glyph.
      • Polar Vortex checks for this in real-time. If one were to cast Polar Vortex with reforged gloves and then takes it off the vortex would shrink accordingly, and vice-versa.
  • Polar Vortex is considered Ice-type magic and will receive bonus damage from Ice Mastery and its reforge, Rosemary Gloves, as well as from items that provide Tri-Element damage.
  • When used by a Link 8 Dark Diviner, this skill gains 2 seconds of additional duration.
  • When used by a Link 10 Dark Diviner, this skill gains 200 additional range.
  • This skill is not compatible with Time Shift.
