Description

Blocks offensive Lightning magic spells such as Lightning Bolt and Thunder. Casting this skill shields you and others with a magic sphere which blocks the magic spells while allowing attacks from the inside. Your Defense increases in proportion to the number of these shields overlapping each other.

Details

Reduce the damage from Lightning Magic or Wind Alchemy attacks, such as Thunder and Lightning Bolt.

• Causes a spherical magical shield barrier to appear around the user, reducing Lightning Magic or Wind Alchemy done to the user and anyone within the area of effect.
  • The following skills are reduced by the barrier:
    • Lightning Bolt
      • Unlike other magic shields, this does NOT include fusion spells.
    • Thunder
    • Lightning Rod
    • Wind Blast
    • Rain Casting
    • Shock
    • Elven Magic Missile (Lightning)
    • Spirit Wand Awakening (Lightning)
    • Rain of Thunder
    • Cerberus Lightning Bolt
  • Those behind the barrier will be protected in the same manner.
  • If the caster is sent into deadly from the spell, they will be knocked back and the spell will cancel.
• If the enemy is already located within the barrier when it uses a lightning spell, the attack will not be affected by the shield.
  • Those outside the barrier will be protected by shield, as the spell must pass through the shield to reach them moving the opposite direction.
  • In addition, players cannot attack enemies from within the area of effect with lightning magic.
• Players inside the barrier will not be stunned by lightning-based magic attacks.
• The caster cannot move or do anything while the barrier is up.
  • However, if the caster is struck by anything other than a lightning spell, even if the caster does not fall back, the shield will cancel.
• If Thunder is used against the caster or players within the barrier, the chaining distance will be decreased and those affected by the barrier will not be stunned. Thunder bolts will still strike normally after the initial bolt, however if the barrier is still in effect it will neither stun nor knock down the players.
• Negates the knockdown effects of Wind Blast.
• The second group in rafting is very good in training Lightning Shield.
• The more Lightning Shields overlap, the less damage Lightning/Wind damage will do.
• Can be used during Windmill's animation.
• Rank F Lightning Shield is a prerequisite to starting the quest to obtain Lightning Rod.

Obtaining the Skill

Memory Book

• Complete the quest Cleric Basics in the Third Memoir. The skill will have training requirements up to Rank 9 completed.

Other Methods

• Talk to Kousai with Rank F or higher Natural Shield while carrying a Restored Blue Crystal Orb in your inventory.
  • A Restored Blue Crystal Orb is obtained by using L-Rod Exploration around Cor. It appears hidden as a 2x2 excavated artifact that must be appraised and restored.
  • Kousai can tell you if an appraised orb will produce a Restored Blue Crystal Orb.

Training Method

• In order to satisfy the "Successfully block Lightning attacks with Lightning Shields on your allies" training requirement, you must be the one hit by Lightning-Based attacks with your shield up, in addition to having someone else's shield up at the same time and overlapping yours.

Tips

• The most efficient method for training "Successfully block a Lightning attack with Lightning Shield" is in Shyllien Nature Reserve's Outskirts District 1. In the back of the area, one can find many Mutant Carnivorous Plants that will often attack with Lightning Bolt.
• Lightning Sprites found on Ceo Island or Coill Dungeon can be helpful.
• An easy method to train this skill is by using the Cerberus that spawn in the Fomor Attack Shadow Mission. However, they randomly use all four elements, making this training method less reliable.
