How about the lute or the chalumeau? Those are fairly straightforward to learn. But if you find even those to be a challenge, there’s always the drums. As long as you can swing downward and have a sense of timing, you have all you need to start! As with most people raising children, I've learned the words to a few children's songs and can play them on an instrument as well. That said... I'm hardly skilled enough to perform in public. ...You don’t really want to hear my singing, do you? Surely you're kidding. I, er...don’t think that's necessary.

I practically had to teach myself how to play the lute. Funny thing is, I didn't use too many chords to play the lute. I pretty much used 3 chords for all the songs I ever played but I had a lot of passion behind that simplistic musical language. I think it was that passion that helped the sound of my little lute to reverberate throughout all of Uladh. Sure, there are some embarrassing stories about me that will follow me for the rest of my life, like how I'd set my lute on fire, or play the lute with my teeth but that too was an expression of my passion. At least I hope that is how people will remember my playing.

The lute is the easiest to learn, though learning the piano is also good for beginners. It's not easy to make the proper sound when playing wind instruments. There are some who can learn it in a day...but conversely, there are many who practice for weeks and still have difficulty getting out more than awkward squawks. My hobby is playing the piano. Some are surprised to learn of my more domestic skills, but I believe in doing what you enjoy. Indeed, it is due for a tune-up. Thank you for reminding me.

I recently went to see an acquaintance perform at the Emain Macha concert hall. I loved the booming of the bass drum so much, I kept a close watch to see how it was being played. But guess what? Haha. I don't know if they were just nervous because it was their first time in front of a big audience, or if the drumhead was worn out from so much practice, or if they were just going at it with too much gusto... But whatever it was, at one point the drumhead just tore wide open, like a fist punching through a sheet of paper! Fortunately, they were able to get through the performance using the other side of the drum. My friend turned white as a sheet when it happened! Poor thing...
