Description
The bleary voice coming through some wet paper... Her unfocused pupils glow in the coolness of the air.
Castanea is the chief of the Elves in Filia. She is adept at magic and can give Elves the quest to obtain Mirage Missile. She sells, repairs and upgrades wands. She also provides Part-Time Jobs that give Holy Water of Lymilark as a reward.
As the Village Chief, she is capable of controlling the Memory Tower, allowing her to control the memories of others.
Castanea will "bless" Elves and Elf-allied Humans when talked to. Elves will receive 15 Dexterity and HP, while allied Humans receive 10 Dexterity and HP. This blessing will last indefinitely unless a player logs out, changes channels, leaves Connous, or becomes Knocked Unconscious.
Mainstream Story
Yoff informs the Milletian that he was subject to the Curse of the Irinid. However Castanea warns the Milletian to not dig too deeply into such a subject, but they ignore the warning.
After giving Taunes the Book of the Irinids, Castanea immediately calls the Milletian to visit her. She then locks them in Longa Desert Ruins as punishment for researching something dangerous and the fact they had a close encounter with the Giants, but is freed by Hagel.
Castanea appears in Longa Desert Ruins to save Ruwai from the Desert Ghost Fanatics who were performing some ritual with the Heart of Courcle. Castanea tells Ruwai he should not have come and that tragic events have just begun, and also tells him to forget what he saw. Ruwai is puzzled that Castaena can directly communicate with him, but she simply tells Ruwai to escape while he can.
As Atrata was regaining her memories, she remembered that a mysterious group of elves hunted her because of her black hair, which was believed to be an omen of doom to their race. Castanea, the leader of the unidentified cult, decided to spare Atrata as she would need her eventually. It is heavily implied that Castanea wiped Atrata's memories of this event.
It is later revealed that Castanea wiped Phaselus's memories clean before he transformed into a Desert Ghost. Kelpie, Phaselus's best friend, discovers this and questions Castanea, who replies that the transmogrification is a result of Irinid's curse and wipes the memories of her brethren to prevent their suffering and falling into despair upon knowing the truth. She then proceeds to wipe Kelpie's memories as a means to protect as he knows too much.
After Kelpie remembers his memories being erased, he demands Castanea to return all the memories she took away. However, she states that there is no known way to return it, only mentioning that the Memory Tower's abilities was made in an image left behind by the Irinid. "Perhaps the answer lies in Zardine, where all of this started." However, the answer was never found.
After the Cessair and Bhafel take over Shyllien Nature Reserve, a place that "rightfully belongs to the elves", Castanea mobilizes her forces to recapture it, hiring Milletians to aid and promises a generous reward. She entrusts Maike the captain of her Royal Guards, to lead the expedition, who smiles for his leader. Once the nature reserve is recaptured, Castanea leaves to monitor things. However, she never actually pays the Milletians for their work.
When the Milletian once again needs allies to combat the Cessair, Castanea agrees to send her forces, once again entrusting Maike to lead them.
After the events of The Saga: Iria, Castanea mentions that the Irinid's curse has been lifted and the elves tore down the Memory Tower as it no longer affects them.
A regal woman in deep maroon cloak ponders the desert outside her window. Her voice spills from her mouth in lazy, tilting tones.
Castanea admits to knowing of Sholto, but tells the Milletian that he died a long time ago.

Trivia
- Castanea is a Latin word from the Greek word κάστανα (both meaning chestnut).
- This is likely in reference to the fact that chestnuts are hard nuts that grow in sharp, spiny shells.
- Castanea used to be stationed outdoors. Following the Filia rework update that came with Generation 17, she was moved inside her house.
- Previously, Castanea had a blue eye color. This was erroneously changed to a green eye color with the 2021 Beauty Update.
- Using the Private Story Keyword on Castanea can have her offer a story about a town similar to Filia that suffers from a curse of memory loss.
- The story is a reference to the real-life book One Hundred Years of Solitude/Cien Años de Soledad by Gabriel García Márquez.
- Castanea also retells this story to Kelpie during Generation 8.
