Description
Cai is one of the Royal Alchemists of Aliech Kingdom. He travels with his friend Leymore.
History
He used to be in training as a druid by Berched, but gave up and started learning alchemy as soon as his girlfriend died, hoping to use alchemy to revive her.
Mainstream Story
Cai was best friends with Leymore, until he betrayed him. He made contact with the Fomorians so he could learn Alchemy in hopes to resurrect his fallen beloved. He kept trying selfishly, but always failed every experiment. He eventually gave up because he realized his ways betrayed his friendship with Leymore.
He is seen to help the Milletian after Tiamat is weakened, and then he uses Life Drain to end him, who is shocked how Cai learned a unique Alchemy spell. He then explains his tragic ways after.
Afterward, the Milletian gains knowledge of the Life Drain skill.
Cai was also instrumental in the final battle in attempting to stop the creation of Claimh Solas. As he does so, he is captured by Fallon who reveals that he had allied with the Fomorians in order to fulfill his dreams. He tells Cai that Claimh Solas will not 'destroy' but 'reshape' Erinn.
Eventually, Cai is rescued by the Milletian, and both of them proceed to stop Claimh Solas. However, their efforts are futile as the beast crawls out and attacks Cai, knocking him outside of the barrier. He then teams with Leymore to destroy the roof of the area, allowing the Milletian to summon Adniel.
After Claimh Solas is defeated, and Leymore is killed trying to stop the creature from self-destructing, Cai 'sacrifices' himself to resurrect his fallen comrade.
Cai returns, possessed by Caliburn, and begins to wreck havoc in both the real world and the Shadow Realm. The Caliburn has endowed Cai the ability to use Alchemy without Cylinders.
Cichol somehow manages to use the possessed Cai to do his bidding, and makes him fight the Milletian in an attempt to stop the Milletian from uncoveringthe Irinid's secrets found inside the Longa Ruins. Despite the Milletian's efforts, Cai comes victorious in their battle. Cichol and Cai vanish, leaving the milletian to die.
Cai is later seen with the Heart of Courcle and Neamhain as she attempts to merge Cai, who is hosting the Caliburn, with the Heart of Courcle, making Cai become light itself. Leymore and the Milletian arrives after the artifacts merge and attempts to persuade Neamhain to return Cai back to himself, but Neamhain ignores Leymore's pleas and begins her plans to bring back Tir Na Nog from darkness. Cichol then appears to congratulate Neamhian for a mission well done, with Elatha by his side. Cichol announces that the purification of Tir Na Nog is something he desires as well, however through the use of "blood purification." Using Elatha as part of the pact of Noitar Arat, Elatha forfeited his destiny to save "useless lives." Elatha then reveals he knows the truth and that Neamhain is his mother. He is then ordered by Cichol to merge with Cai and commence the destruction of the Soul Stream, ignoring his mother's pleas to embrace the light. Before Elatha merges, the Incubus gives the Milletian his Music Box and urges them to protect the Soul Stream. Cai then absorbs Elatha and gains the powers of the Goddess of Light, then proceeds to destroy the Soul Stream. Leymore tries to stop Cai, but Cai punches him and disappears. Cichol then declares the Soul Stream's destruction and attacks. Neamhain, angered at both the loss of the artifacts and her son, counterattacks, but before either deity can launch their attacks, Morrighan arrives and orders them to stop fighting, then tells the Milletian to save the Soul Stream. Before they leave, Leymore gives them a Cylinder to save Cai.
Cai, standing at the center of the Soul Stream, prepares the region's demise, but is interrupted by the Milletian. The Caliburn, as Cai, then assumes the form of the Milletian and begins to attack. Although the Doppelganger seems invulnerable to every single attack while nearly obliterating the Milletian with its own Alchemy and Deity powers, it eventually drops its guard by Taunting. The Milletian quickly plays Elatha's Music Box, causing Elatha's spirit within the Doppelganger to react and stun it, allowing the Milletian to absorb Elatha and his light from the copy, then uses it to destroy the Doppelganger once and for all. Cai's body then reappears and collapses to the ground. Shortly after, Nao arrives and thanks the Milletian in their efforts of saving the Soul Stream, but Tir Na Nog and Cai still need them.
Cai returns and has fully recovered from the events of Generation 10 and has resigned his position as Royal Alchemist. By the order of Sinead, the Milletian is required to bring Cai back and is to return the Alchemist Medal to him, something given to all Royal Alchemists. The Milletian then goes to Tara's Stonehenge in order to search for Cai inside Shadow Tara Rath Castle.
After the Milletian finds Cai, he notices the Alchemist Medal, and states that he has no intention of becoming a Royal Alchemist for a while. He explains that he is part of the reason for the threat on Erinn. However, he does take the Alchemist Medal back since the Milletian went through the trouble of finding him, but can not make any promises of returning as a Royal Alchemist. Cai then says he will make sure Caliburn returns to the Castle, but requires Leymore's help, and sends the Milletian to find him. He will return the favor for searching for him and returning his Alchemist Medal.
After talking to Sinead about Leymore's whereabouts, the Milletian discovers that Leymore is in Shadow Tara Rath Castle in search for traces of Caliburn. Upon arriving, the Milletian sees Cai with Leymore. Cai then thanks the Milletian for tracking Leymore down so he could get in touch with him. With the Milletian helping the two alchemists, Cai states he feels like an army is helping them. After some investigation the Goddess Morrighan appears before Cai, Leymore, and the Milletian. She is aware that they are searching for the Caliburn, and informs them about its history.
Cai is summoned by Sinead, along with Leymore, to help the Milletian assist Buchanan, who is currently investigating in Shadow Tara Rath Castle. Cai is under the assumption that Buchanan is in danger. Although he is investigating clues about the Parthalonians, Cai hopes that Buchanan is not in harm's way. He is impressed that Buchanan can do research even in the most dangerous of places. After searching the entire first floor of the castle, the group find Buchanan unharmed. He explains what he has discovered and asks them to obtain the Book of Partholon. Buchanan then says that the book is hidden by a secret mechanism found in the castle's Restaurant. He then hands group a crudely drawn map with the correct switch order. After leaving the Shadow Realm, the group then reports to Sinead and return to the Shadow Tara Rath Castle to find the Book of Partholon. Cai doubtful about the book's location, worrying about the Fomors moving the book.
Upon arriving at the book's location, the group was ambushed by Mata and he summons Shadow Monsters in an attempt to stop them. Cai attempts to persuade Mata by saying Cichol warned them about the danger Erinn may face and that it could affect both Humans and Fomors alike. Mata replies that Cichol is no longer their king and is a coward who has forsaken the Fomor Ideal. Mata attempts to attack the group, but is suddenly stopped by the Python Knight, in the name of the Holy Land. The Python Knight proceeds by eliminating the Shadow Monsters, along with Mata, with Shadow Death. Cai demands that the mysterious Python Knight reveal his identity, exclaiming he is neither Human nor Fomor, but the question is evaded. Cai believes the the Python Knight is bad news, questioning who he is. He will attempt to research the Python Knight and find whatever he can on him. He instructs Leymore to stay with the Milletian and investigate the Parthalonian magic, leaving shortly after.
As Leymore searched for a way to recreate the ancient Parthalonian magic and the Milletian restored the Book of Partholon, Cai underwent his own research on the Python Knight. He discovered that the Caliburn Altar is protected by a barrier of ancient Parthalonian magic. Unable to do anything alone, he sends word to Padan to give the information to the Milletian. The Milletian then meets with Cai on the outskirts of Shadow Tara. Cai explains that while researching the mysterious Python Knight, he had found a connection between him and the ancient Parthalonians. The Parthalonians carried a key that would open Partholon's Barrier, which surrounds and protects the Altar of Caliburn. He then points down a hill, calling it the Caliburn Pass. The Partholon forces had gathered in a spot that would stop Cai alone. He asks if the Milletian and they agree to help Cai get to the Caliburn Pass. After obtaining the pass, he goes to find Jenna and Leymore.
Leymore, Jenna, and Cai arrive at the Altar of Caliburn. Leymore and the others had trouble with Partholon's Barrier. Upon their arrival, the group finds the Milletian surrounded by the Python Knight's minions and offers to take care of them while the Milletian takes care of the Altar of Caliburn, returning Brionac to its rightful resting place. By doing so, the Milletian removed all the Parthalonians, including the Python Knight, from the area around the altar. Jenna begins to think about how it was all started over the Tuan's selfishness, and how it affected his thinking. Cai finds that the Shadow Realm still exists, even though the Caliburn is now in its rightful resting place. Leymore suggests that the Shadow Realm will continue to exist and it is something that can not be undone.
The Alchemist War
Cai is helping Lennox's main forces during the course of the war in Shadow Taillteann. The Milletian, Leymore, and Jenna arrive at the square. Leymore and Lennox begin to talk to each other, with the conversation beginning to escalate. Cai then butts in between the bickering family members and reminds them that there are other things to worry about, such as taking care of the Corrupted Alchemists.
As the battle draws to a close, the Milletian, Jenna, Leymore, Cai, Lennox, and the Royal Alchemists corner Helvetius. As a finality act, Helvetius overloads all the nearby Alchemy Ovens and causes them to self-destruct. The group begins to escape, running away from the fierce flames produced by the self-destructing ovens. Jenna trips near an oven that has yet to explode. Lennox, realizing that it will soon self-destruct, runs to Jenna's aid and places a Barrier Spike close to Jenna, shielding her from the explosion. Lennox was caught in the blast, as he was too close to the explosion, and is fatally injured. Leymore then calls out to him and rushes to his aid. Lennox hoped that Leymore would someday understand why he uses alchemy the way he does. He regrets that he should told his son sooner, then asks for his son's forgiveness with his dying breath.
The Fragments of Falias
At some point, Cai, along with many others by order of the Royal Regime, told Lezarro about the situation of the Milletian finding the ancient fragments of Falias left behind by the Gods after settling Erinn. Lezarro gives the Milletian the Goblet of Truth, which was obtained from Krug, during a diplomatic mission in Physis.
Morrighan had summoned the Milletian, Leymore, Cai, and Jenna to the Underground Spring in Ceo to meet with her. She explains by finding all of the lost treasures left by the God when they descended into Erinn, the Brionac was completely restored. She tells the Milletian to use the light of the Goddess to shine the path to Holy Throne of Falias. Morrighan then gives her blessing and enchants the Brionac, but falls due to her wounds against her battle with Nuadha. Leymore and Cai rushes to Morrighan to assist her. The Milletian does the same, but is stopped by Jenna, who tells the Milletian that as the Master of the Brionac, only they can stop Nuadha and thwart his plans on becoming an all powerful god. The Milletian heeds Jenna's words and leaves to stop Nuadha once and for all.

Trivia
- Despite Ruairi's claims of a Tuatha de Danann inheriting Milletian traits upon coming in contact with the Soul Stream, Cai was not affected.
- Cai (also Cei, Kai, Kay, Keie, Keu) is a name with different meanings in many languages.
- Cai's name might be based off of the Arthurian legend of Sir Kay, whose name might be based off of the Roman name Gaius/Caius (one of the most common personal names among Roman men). Gaius itself is though to be derived from the Latin word gaudēre (meaning to rejoice, to take pleasure in).
- The Korean (케이) and Japanese (ケイ) names are both pronounced Kay, further suggesting this.
- Caí/Caígh is also an Irish word meaning lamentation.
