Buchanan's Disappearance
Aeira sends an owl to the Milletian requesting that they must search for Buchanan, who has mysteriously disappeared without a trace. Aeira gives the Milletian a pass to the Dunbarton Library in order to find clues about his current whereabouts. The Milletian begins to search through the shelves until they find a book about fluctuating Dye Ampoule Prices written by Eavan. Their search leads them to an abandoned Dunbarton Library Card that Buchanan owns. The Milletian then returns to Aeira with the card. Upon looking at the card's details, she finds that there are several books checked out about the Partholons. She then tells the Milletian that Buchanan may have gone Tara Rath Castle's Royal Library and perhaps may have found more books concerning the Partholons and their race. Aeira refers the Milletian to Arzhela, albeit forgetting her name.
The Milletian meets with Arzehla, who is a dear friend of Buchanan. However, she does not trust the Milletian fully and sends them on a mission to gather some sort of ancient tome or parts of it and bring it back to her. In return, she will give the Milletian information about Buchanan. After the Milletian comes back and returns with a piece of an Ancient Book, Arzehla gives the Milletian Buchanan's Royal Library, which holds a record of every book he has ever borrowed. She has been holding on to it as friend. She then states that Buchanan might be found in Shadow Tara Rath Castle, as he was investigating something there.
Once inside Shadow Tara Rath, the Milletian encounters monsters blocking the path. After defeating them, Cichol appears and, instead of attacking, warns the Milletian that the Caliburn merged with the Heart of Courcle may cause a disaster. With their search for Buchanan interrupted by Cichol, the Milletian leaves and returns to Arzehla. Upon returning, it turns out Arzehla was attempting to warn them that the Royal Library Card was not Buchanan's, but someone else's, and, refusing to believe Cichol due to his history, tells the Milletian to ignore whatever he said. Worried, she begins to believe that Buchanan's disappearance may be related to the strange things that are taking place in the Shadow Realm.
Finding Buchanan
Prior to Buchanan's disappearance, two weeks to be exact, Buchanan and Glewyas were talking about publishing Glewyas's new recipe book. Buchanan and Glewyas were close friends as well as business partners. However, Glewyas is having a hard time finishing the recipe book. He wants to end the recipe book with a hot-loved themed recipe and requires some help. Asking the Milletian to get a recipe for Hotcake of Love, he will exchange the recipe in exchange for some "incredible info" regard Buchanan. The Milletian accepts the request and begins search their search for the Hotcake of Love recipe.
After returning with the perfect recipe for Hotcake of Love, Glewyas gives the Milletian a signed copy of his new book, "Glewyas's Mythril Chef Recipe Book." Upon reading it, the Milletian discovers a Royal Library Card. Knowing what the library card can do, the Milletian rushes to Tara's Stonehenge in hopes of find Buchanan. Upon the arrival of Shadow Tara Rath Castle, the Milletian finds Strange Books lying on the ground. After defeating them, one of the books drop a key to the Shadow Library and proceeds to opening the door. Buchanan is seen inside, lurking around and investigating the room until he is startled by a Rat. He then resumes investigating until the Milletian walks into the room. The Milletian then states that they are on a mission to find Buchanan and is currently investigating his disappearance. Buchanan then questions his "disappearance" as if it was not a big problem. He then realizes the Milletian was the Shadow Hero who defeated Claimh Solas, while thinking about the enjoyment of publishing a collection of stories about the Milletian. The Milletian is intrigued by Buchanan's deal, but quickly changes the subject on why Buchanan is in the Shadow Realm. Buchanan explains that he is searching for various Ancient Books and had received a tip from an unmentioned source that Shadow Tara Rath had books in the Shadow Library. Interested, he came to the Shadow Royal Library to see if the tip was true. He then gives the Milletian a book, figuring that the "Shadow Hero" would be interested. The book contains information about the Caliburn. Buchanan exclaims that the Caliburn was once a treasure held by Rath Royal Castle. However, the book contains ancient Parthalonian language that requires deciphering. He then says the Caliburn came from a civilization more advanced than Tuatha de Dananns (Humans that are not Milletians). Buchanan feels that further investigation may lead to another great treasure.
Parthalonian Investigations
Buchanan's investigations has lead him to Ciar Dungeon. He was searching for the book entitled "Book of Partholon." The Milletian visits Briana who tells them that Buchanan can be found in Tir Chonaill. The Milletian quickly rushes to Ciar Dungeon to find Buchanan. After clearing the Dungeon, the Milletian finds Buchanan in the boss room of Ciar Dungeon. Buchanan is surprised to find the Milletian in Ciar Dungeon and knows that it was Briana who sent the Milletian there. Buchanan says it was not hard to figure out he would be in Tir Chonaill looking for ancient books. He finds that it is extremely hard to find remnants of Parthalonian Race after much time has passed, comparing to a needle in a haystack. Sometime before entering Ciar Dungeon, he was at Piaras's Inn. There, he found that others were researching the Parthalonians. According to Buchanan, no one is having much luck figuring out the Parthalonian Race. He does have a few books regarding the Caliburn. Buchanan states that the Caliburn is not an object, but some kind of living being that continuously changes forms. The Brionac is the final form of Caliburn. Several books talk about the Caliburn and its relation to the Sword of the Gods. Buchanan also states that the Parthalonians used special magic to handle Brionac, effectively wielding it as a weapon. The magic, however, was lost with time. Buchanan feels that the magic may be the key to understanding the Parthalonians and their existence. He then makes his way to Tara, feeling satisfied about getting closer to the answer behind the Parthalonians.
Shortly after returning to Tara, Buchanan heads into Shadow Tara Rath Castle to investigate more about the Partalonians. He eventually contacts Sinead, who summons the Milletian to assist Buchanan. She also contact Leymore and Cai in the case the situation becomes bad. After searching the entire first floor of the castle, Buchanan is found unharmed. He has been searching for clues about the magic the Parthalonian used to control Caliburn. He exclaims that he has found a lead. He tells the Milletian, along with Cai and Leymore, that the Book of Partholon must be found in order to understand the Parthalonian magic. He has tracked it down to the Armory found inside Shadow Tara Rath Castle. Buchanan attempted to grab the book, but was stopped by the Fomors. He says that the Shadow Hero can probably handle the Fomors better than he can, commenting that his Smash is not what it used to be. Buchanan then tells the group that in order to get the Book of Partholon, a secret device found in Shadow Tara Rath Castle's Restaurant must be used. The device consists of four orb switches that must be touched in a certain order. He then hands the group a crudely drawn map with the correct switch order. Buchanan apparently risked his life 24 times to know that it is the correct order.
At some point, Buchanan put together a series of notes regarding the ancient Parthalonian magic and gave a copy of the notes to Leymore to use in his alchemy research.
