Before reading
- If you want to use this fragmentation guide, go ahead but be sure to credit me.
- If you want to edit it, don't do it without asking me.
- This guide is mainly intended for those who do not have a strong foundation in alchemy.
- Remember people, this is a guide. They're just a bunch of guidelines that I think makes it easier for you. If you don't like it, then fine. I worked on it based on my experience.
- If you're wondering why there might be some holes that aren't fully explained or something, it is for the sake of beginners. Either that or I might have actually missed something. Alchemy is a complex skill set where success comes from different skills rather than one skill like alchemy mastery, especially with Transmutation. With that said, it will overwhelm beginners and those who are trying to break into alchemy.
Description
Fragmentation is an interesting transmutation skill to it's own right. It is the opposite of synthesis and breaks the item into smaller parts that were used to make the item. In this guide of guidelines, I will try to make fragmenting easy enough to swallow through with faster training in less time.
Notes to consider
- It's a very convenient way to reuse materials for production training (or should I say the lazy way).
- It is able to break down basic materials and items that were made in Blacksmithing, Tailoring, Handicrafting and Potion Making.
- It can't decompose any items that are bought from NPCs such as Cheap Fabric.
- It is NOT able to break down materials and items that are made in Magic Craft and Hillwen Engineering (sorry guys, you still have to suffer through wasting materials to make the item x~x)
- There are no guarantees that you will get the same number of items back. For example, 5 cobwebs = 1 thin thread. If you fragment that 1 thin thread, you're NOT guaranteed to get all 5 cobwebs back.
- Fragmentation success is affected by so many variables, primarily as weather and alchemy/transmutation mastery.
- 0-9 Weather - 5%
- Thunderstorm - 10%
- Alchemy Mastery Rank 1 - 7%
- Transmutation Rank 1 - 10%
- Enchants - 9%
- Master Title - 2%
- Samhain (Saturday) - 10%
- Even if you are rank 1 fragmentation, some items are capped at a certain % for whatever reason.

Something you should have before attempting to tackle the skill
- Transmutation Talent: Not to be confused with battle alchemist, as they don't grant double training to the the transmutation skillset. This will reduce your time and items spent by half.
- Optional 2x Alchemy training potions: There's a variation of these, but generally they help boost training like a talent for x amount of hours.
- 100 Transmutation: Try your best to have this skill as high as you can. If you're training fragmentation along with this, great. I'll give you a cookie for that (can be any flavor you want).
- 100 Ingredient Hunting: Especially for those that call for cheap or common leather, this will be up your alley. It's completely optional but it will make leather hunting easier.
- Preferably rank 1 Rain Cast: Extends cloud duration and boosts fragmentation success.
- Preferably rank 1 Production Mastery, Blacksmithing, Tailoring, Handicrafting, Potion Making, Refining and Weaving: Fragmentation is life skill heavy, so a lot of the items that they're asking you to decompose comes from high ranked items at higher ranks. This is something you must have if you do attempt on working this skill without anyone's help.
- A stash of ingots: Ranks will call for ingots regardless. That's just the rule. As to how to get them, best bet is to duplicate ingots with synthesis because it gets harder to obtain a numerous amount of rare ores and ingots. See this reference link [1] for more info on how duplication works.
- Homestead Dry Oven (Optional): It makes traveling back and forth easier instead of running to the ones in Tailteann.
- Fragmentation gear (optional): May take a lot of time to gather the specific enchants mentioned above due to different circumstances, but they will push your success rates much higher (which means a lot). If you really want to get a fragmentation, it's up to you.
- Patience: While it isn't as time consuming as Magic Craft or Hillwen Engineering, fragmentation can take a lot out of you if you're doing this without a lot of support. Make use of your talent and any 2x training potions!
- MOTIVATION: Items will not come to you as you sit around and do nothing unless someone is willing to help you. Even so, you don't want to waste their time by being completely dependent on them to get the things you need to train fragmentation.
FAQ section (I guess)
- Q: This item is ranked F in tailoring, but why can't I fragment it?
- A: For some odd reason, fragmentation is VERY selective on what can be broken down and what can't even if items do have the same rank as other similar items. With that said, be sure to consult the mighty Fragmentation List before you proceed with gathering any materials for fragmentation.
- Q: Item X can be made with handicraft, but it can't be decomposed even though they aren't sold by NPCS. Why is that?
- A: There are exceptions to certain items, even though you're following the rules of fragmentation.
- Q: Can synthesized items be fragmented?
- A: Funny hearing this, but no. Even though they're brother and sister skills, they don't function like that. Only time when it can be used like that is when you're duplicating ingots.
With that said, let's get started! Embrace the journey on the yellow brick road to the City of rank 1 fragmentation.
Rank Novice -> E
Pretty easy start, nothing too complex; you're asked to decompose the most basic items which are iron ingots , thin threads and 50 hp pots in the early ranks. They all have a value that's between 1 and 1.50 points so it wouldn't matter which way you went - you still get the same amount of training for all of them. With that said, you'll get points for training regardless if fragmentation was successful or it failed.
- Advice: Even though they all have the same points, I'd try decomposing iron ingots and thin threads because they're easier to access to. Life skills aren't a problem here and only call for items that only need rank F or higher in refining and weaving.

Successfully decompose anything above Handicraft Rank F | 1.00 | 20 | 20.00 |
Almost the same requirements like the last few ranks. Even though you're still decomposing iron, now you're asked to decompose thick thread and cheap silk instead of thin thread alone. You'll start seeing the training values to decrease even more than what you saw last rank, which means you have to put more effort into it. Life skills are slowly creeping into your training requirements because you'll be exposed to fragmenting items that can be made with handicrafting and potion making. Continue fragmenting til you can advance
- Suggested Advice: Fragment paper cranes, 50 mp potions and thick threads. Paper cranes (rank F), mp potions and thick threads are very easy to recycle and they give more training points. Cheap silk can be used, but it needs weaving gloves which need to be bought from NPCs that sell tailoring items.
- Don't bother with decomposing iron ingots anymore at this point because it doesn't give a lot of points like it did before unless you're perfectly content with using them.

The rank still calls for thick thread, cheap silk and 50 mp potions like it did last rank. You will no longer see any iron ingots for you to break down; instead you'll get copper ingots. The training counts decreases even more than what it was last time. You can't have it easy with handicraft now because it's calling for items that are or higher than rank E.
- Suggested advice: Nothing particular to say here since anything will work, it's based if you have easy access to it and/or don't mind paying for it. I used thick thread, 50 mp pots and handmade bandage. Handmade bandage is a rank E item and it only calls for 1 cheap fabric to make it. However, fragmenting it requires 2 bandages for every attempt.

While fragmenting copper ingot stays the same, fragmentation training decides not to be easy on you: Things are getting a little bit harder if you don't have a lot of your life skills ranked by A, training value continues to decrease by each rank and you have to go through a lot more to do what you need to do. Instead of thick threads, they're now asking you to fragment braids which is a combination of thin and thick thread. Instead of a 50 mp pot, they're asking you to break down a 50 stamina pot.
- Advice: Definitely decompose the stamina potions and the copper ingots to get the big points out of the way. For handicraft, you'll want to decompose magic powder. It only calls for one base herb and one small red, blue or silver gem; the different gems only affect the success rate of making the powder with blue being the lowest.

Fragmentation decides to take it up a notch and instead of copper ingots, it's silver ingots . The bad thing about this is that silver alone is rarer than gold , which may make fragmenting silver ingots difficult just because it isn't easy to access silver to begin with. In addition, your handicraft item has been pushed up to rank C instead of D.
- Advice: Continue with the stamina potions and the magic (gem) powder. You will have to push yourself with braids if you don't have easy access or you're not willing to get the silver ingots. But if you're willing to use silver ingots, it is highly recommended you have someone to duplicate silver for you. It'll make things 10000x easier than it should be.

- At this point, if you're still following this guide and questioning "Why I can't fragment it despite it being rank X??" Either read the FAQ section or click on this link. Yes, the one in bolded words.
Congratulations on making it to the number ranks, training just became harder from here. Everything in the requirements changes except the silver ingots. Potion making only kicks up a notch and asks you to successfully decompose 100 HP potions. It's not difficult from before, it's just adding a new ingredient into the recipe called a base potion , which is sold at Healer NPCs. You'll now notice that there isn't a lot of fail opportunities and requirements which means you have to boost your success up in every way possible to make the most out of it. In addition, not only have to decompose handicraft items to fulfill the training points, but it also asks you to fragment items that come from tailoring and blacksmithing. That's good because it gives you more flexibility on what you can do to train fragmentation. Just like the handicraft items you've been fragmenting (for unknown reason why, I don't know), fragmentation is going to be extremely selective when it comes to tailoring and blacksmithing items. It's so bad, you think it has a mind of its own and discriminates items or something. Asides from the ranting, training counts don't actually decrease too much; the new requirements go back up as high as 2 points for training.
- Suggested advice: Decompose potions because they fill most of your training counts. Just be aware that it takes more ingredients to make one HP 100 potion. Cheap leathers and Common Silk are very easy to obtain and cheap to buy too; Ingredient Hunting will be more reliable for cheap leathers specifically. Don't bother with any blacksmithing or tailoring requirements at the moment because you can go farther without them.

Still here? That's good if you want to keep going. Silver ingots isn't an option anymore and now asks you to decompose gold ingots. If you're lazy to some extent (like I am), then you probably know that getting gold ingots might be hard. It's not because they're rare because they actually show up more often than silver, but it's because a lot of items that can be made in this game don't call for gold ingots or anything that requires gold rocks. As a result, it's often not in demand or people aren't going to sell them in shops often. But otherwise, not that hard to obtain; you just need to take the time to get it yourself. Instead of HP 100 pots, you're now required to decompose 100 MP pots. Again, it's not difficult but the potions require a base potion. There's not really a lot to say because from this point on, the requirements will look pretty much the same especially with the handicraft, tailoring and blacksmith requirements and the points will just begin to decrease further and further.
- Advice: Continue with fragmenting the cheap leather straps and the common silks. If you have at least rank B handicrafting, then you can make finest bandages which is a rank A item that only calls for common fabric and it's very easy to compose. Once again, it takes two bandages just to be able to decompose the item into one common fabric. I personally didn't bother with the tailoring and blacksmithing items again, so I just went with the gold ingot route. You're always more than welcomed to go ask someone to help you duplicate the ingots as well.

Nothing much changes here except for a few things. First of all, there's no potion requirement at all which means you won't be able to get training done if you fragment a potion. Handicraft reaches the number ranks while blacksmithing and tailoring are behind. With that said, you can't get out of this rank easily without making at least woodboards for this. The cheap leather strap changes to common leather strap, which aren't expensive to begin with so everything is okay. You're more than likely to begin fragment blacksmithing and tailoring items from this point if you're unable to gain any gold ingots.
- Advice: Fragment the common leather strap and the gold ingots if you possibly have them. IF you don't have any problems with fragmenting fine fabric then go ahead and do it, otherwise don't bother with it because the chance of getting fine fabric is..well... small... even at high weaving ranks.
- Personal note: I didn't train so much of handicrafting with woodboards in this rank so it should be fine. I was currently working on blacksmithing at the time and I was smithing Light Melka Chain armors, which can be fragmented easily, at a low cost.

Oooh, you're almost there! Seriously, if you were able to make it this far then rank 1 should be within your reach (go go go!) Silver plates are not an option anymore and you're given gold plates to work with. Just be thankful that the last (needed) rankable rank doesn't call for mythril plates. The potion requirements are still here with the big points in training. However because antidote potions are things a lot of people don't really go out of their way for, it's not often seen/ made. For antidote potions, a lot of monsters drops in the Lord mission The Secret of Scathach Caverns so if you or a friend have access in there, go fetch some.
- Advice: Always do the easy points, so more paper cranes to work with for the last requirement. with that out of the way, do the golden plate and antidote potion fragmenting because that's where the big points are. Between tough string and finest fabric, I would fragment the tough string because they are 1000x more readily accessible than the fabric themselves.
Rank 1
Congratulations on making it to rank 1. What should you with it? Well, most people with rank 1 tend to host free fragmentation services for general public, friends and guild mates. But I mean, if you're working on life skills that fragmentation circles around then go ahead and train away while being lazy. Even though success rate is past 60% at this point, rules and risks of fragmentation still apply. If you want to go for the master title... well.. knock yourself out. Not exactly the greatest because the enchanted gear provides 9% additional success than the title itself... which is 2% additional success. But, I mean it's totally up to you. If you're willing to put the time and effort to get the title, just follow the instructions at this point and use your best judgement on what's optimal and time/cost efficient.
