Crumena first appears at Raspa Volcano, helping the Milletian by killing off surrounding Wyverns ambushing their Hot-Air Balloon. The red dragon then warns the Milletian that evil dragons are plotting to gain a hold of Adniel, a gold dragon who is said to decide the fate of Iria depending on who it sides with, which will endanger all of Erinn. Crumena also warns that they will have to help him in the distant future, and then flies off.
Belita mentions that Crumena aided her once, but because Zardine is a very dangerous place, the red dragon cannot help them every time. She suggests using the Irinid Ballista Bolt for self-defense.
After the Milletian creates the special bolt, Crumena is under attack by a blue dragon at Raspa Volcano. The Milletian fires the bolt at the opposing dragon, giving Crumena the opportunity to push it off the cliff and into a pit of lava, killing it. The red dragon reveals that the opposing dragon was Cromm Cruaich and that Crumena was using the Milletian to remove obstacles. After repeatedly calling the Milletian "foolish", Crumena flies off.
Legatus later informs the Milletian that the Red Dragons, Crumena included, despised being sealed by the Irinid as they viewed it shameful and could never bring themselves to accepting peace, unlike the Blue Dragons. The Red Dragons saw Adniel as political gain and sought to have the gold dragon side with them, their first task being to rid Cromm Cruaich, the leader of the Blue Dragons and the one trying to resurrect Adniel. Legatus then convinces the Milletian not to give up hope.
The Milletian confronts Crumena in Renes for the final battle. After openly mocking the Milletian and Legatus, Crumena reveals to be using Atrata as Adniel's Conductor, claiming that repeating the Moonlight of Death will save the Elves from Irinid's Curse. At first, the Milletian seems to be winning, but Crumena suddenly overpowers them. Taunes arrives in the nick of time, but Crumena counterattacks and mocks Taunes for his poor eyesight, even going so forth to claim Taunes as completely blind. Atrata then threatens to resign as the conductor, but Crumena denies this as this is her fate. Atrata then throws her wind bell in front of the dragon, and by its sound, Taunes rushes up to it and kills the dragon once and for all.
