Character
- For information on the Character Window, see User Interface#Character Info.
Basic Information
Players must create a Character in order to enter the world of Mabinogi. Every account starts with six free Character Cards. Mabinogi offers players the option to purchase Ace Character Card or Hero Character Cards in order to create more characters.
If no characters over a cumulative level of 1000 exist on the same account, all characters will receive Beginner's Benefits.
You can have a total of 300 characters and pets on an account. However, once 200 characters are present on the account, only pets and partners can be created up to the 300 limit.
Character Cards
Character Cards can be used to create new Characters or used to Rebirth an existing one. For more information, see Character Cards.
There are 3 available Races to choose from. Human character may also obtain a free Elf and Giant Assistant Cards by forming an alliance with Atrata and Krug, respectively. This is limited to one of each card per account, and you are not given free Assistant Cards upon attempting to create an alliance with Elves or Giants. Accounts whom have not had their original character be a Human can still claim these free cards by creating a Human and forming the alliances on the new Human.

Colors
Mabinogi: Fantasy Life uses a pre-determined palette color system to let the player choose the colors of their character's features.
A number of colors can be selected respectively for skin color, eye color, and hair color.
- Depending on the specific feature chosen, there may be variants in the same color between two hair or eye types.
- Some options, like but not limited to eyelashes, henna, blush, tattoos and beards cannot have a different color applied to them.
- The player's skin color may affect the resulting color of these features, however.
Skin Colors
- Some items may alter the color of the character's skin. See here for a list.
- Some Mouth features may end up tinted differently depending on the player's skin color.
- Premium colors requires Pon to use under normal circumstances.
- These colors may be also affected by the character's model and underlaying skin color.
- For Instance, the color #CCCCCC, Fog, will rarely show as-is on the player's model. This is due to the ambient light effects and the character model's specific shading method.
- The Film Style Post Shader option may also affect the final look of the color.

- Players can Rebirth into ages 10 to 17.
- The player cannot rebirth as an older age.

- Your actual age (for Title bonuses and other things) is x + the age your current life began.
- Characters that started at age 17 will be age 30 when the display reads "13 years past 25"
- Characters that started at age 10 will be 30 at "20 years past 25", etc.

- Giants used to have a completely different model before they were overhauled, see Giant for more information.
- Beards are a unique feature of a male Giants's character creation.
- Coco used to offer Premium options through the Beauty Shop. The Merlin Update removed the beauty shop and replaced it with the Dressing Room.
- Some mouth types, marked with a 'C', used to be Coupon-only before being added to the Premium options.
- Prior to 2014, The Butler and Maid hairstyles used to be available to player character, but were then removed. Players who had the hairstyles after the update could not Rebirth and keep the hairstyle.[3]
- There used to be multiple Servers for character creation in the NA region of Mabinogi.
- The Nao Server for the Closed Beta.
- The Ruairi, Mari, and Tarlach Servers.
- The Alexina Server was added later.
- Ruairi, Mari, and Tarlach got merged into a new Nao Server during the player-requested NA Server Merge (2019).
- Nao and Alexina were merged into the Erinn Server during the player-requested NA Server Merge (2022).
- Some colors used to be race-limited.
- Notably, Elves could not have dark skin or black hair. The Eweca Blue and Iria Green hair colors were unique to elves.
- Giants did not have access to the Ice Blue hair color. The eye color Prepeace-wine was unique to them.
- The colors Pale Emerald, Eweca Blue, Iria Green, Ice Blue, Lemon Yellow, Misty Rose, Aquamarine, Frilly Pink, Chroma Orange, and Canary Yellow all also appear as Glyph Design choices.

- Cobalt comes the German goblin, the Kobold, and was once called kobold ore.

- Narkiss Aqua Blue is likely referencing the narcissus flower.
- Ultramarine references the real-world Ultramarine made from ground-up Lapis Lazuli.

- Misty Rose is a Web Color originating with the X11 Computer System, Netscape Navigator Web Browser, and Mosaic Web Browser.
- Ironically, despite being named after a standardized Web Color, Misty Rose does not share the same exact color values.
- Xanthe is the Greek word Ξανθή which means blond-haired.
- Ochre is the Greek word ωχρός, meaning pale, and it is a family of earth pigments largely comprised of iron.
- Imperial-yellow references the Qing Dynasty which restricted and associated the color with the Emperor.
- Lemon Yellow references a pigment also known as Barium Yellow.
- Desertum is the Latin word dēsertum meaning desert.
- Caelum Blue, also known as Cerulean Blue, uses the Latin word caelum meaning sky or heaven.
- Smalt Blue references a powdered glass pigment related to Cobalt Glass.
- Mythril and Eternium are references to fictional metals.

- Eweca Blue and Ladeca Red reference the two moons found in-game in Mabinogi. However, Eweca appears as a red moon with a blue glow and Ladeca appears as a blue moon.
