First, do not say "it says that". Second, did Ruwai really mean to go to Erkey Falls? There's no sand nor anything to L-Rod Explore there, and he ended up all the way in Longa Desert Ruins which is far far far FAR away from Erkey Falls. Would it be possible that "Erkey Falls" is a typo?

Actually, he wanted to go to Connous for something, as the only place with sand is Connous. Ruwai asked voight for L-rods so he could do some exploration in Connous, which is why he has L-rods in his inventory in Longa. Eariler, Tupai and Ruwai went to the Erkey falls for a picnic of something and Ruwai suddenly wanted to go to Connous for some reason. I'm not sure what else is there. Luckily I recorded everything I did in G7, so I'll look back at it later.

Nevermind, I only got cutscenes....oh well.

Strategy Guide, no mention of Ruwai wanting to go to Connous. Unless they actually changed stuff around, then...

Oh turns out I have dialogue too (almost deleted it LOL). hmm let me pull it up...

Holy crap the text is HORRIBLY outdated....anyways the text is pretty similar as of now and it is heavily implied that Ruwai went to Connous, as it is the only place with sand that would probably do what it would, irritate your eyes. My guess is that Ruwai may have found some sort of clues that may have lead him to Connous, more specifically, Longa Desert Ruins. I mean when you want to look for ancient clues, you go to ancient ruins I guess.

Maybe he heard the Heart of Courcle call him from all the way in Courcle and wanted to go check it out?

That might be the case considering he understood the relic when he finally found it.
