Talk:Gem Upgrades
- HEADSMACK:: realized after I posted this that I forgot about blunts, wands, and ranged weapons. I'll work on those in a bit, I'm pondering how to handle the size issue. -- ladywinter ~{talk page}~ 04:16, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

I just did the Wand Gem Upgrade 1 for a Crystal Lightning Wand and had both a 5.00cm and 10.00cm Garnet on me when it only needed a 1.00cm+. The upgrade ended up using the 5.00cm instead of the 10.00cm. Would it be safe to say that any gem closest to the exact value the upgrade needs would be used up instead of the highest size you happen to own? If so, I think that would be worth mentioning on this page so that some people don't have to worry about the higher size being used up.
Then why is it that we use the terms Jewels for the Gem Upgrade Pages and Jewels page? Can you delete the redirects so we can move them?
When it says you can do a Gem Upgrade at 0~0, does that mean on a non-upgraded item or does it mean as the first Gem Upgrade after the weapon/shield is fully upgraded? If it is before it's upgraded, this won't take up any upgrade slots, right? Also, can you perform the same Gem Upgrade twice for a Shield? This information would also be good to include on this page.
Gem upgrades have their own section, therefore creating a new starting point on upgrades. In other words, first gem upgrade after item is fully upgraded.
Also, many shields have the ability to receive a 2nd gem upgrade, but the same upgrade cannot be done twice. It is a different upgrade.
So would this be a valid upgrade path for a Shield of Avon?
- Surface Enhancement
- Avon Shield Special Upgrade 1, 2, or 3
- Artisan Upgrade
- Defensive Gem Upgrade
- Shield of Avon Gem Upgrade
This is probably the only Shield of Avon I'll ever work on so I want to get it right. Also, if the last upgrade was an artisan, and you gem upgrade then undo the artisan upgrade, will that undo the gem upgrade(s)? (Same goes for Special Upgrades for weapons.) If you had only one, and it doesn't disappear, will you not be able to put a second gem upgrade until you put another last upgrade on?
Yes, that is a valid upgrade path. If you gem upgrade after an artisan, you are ineligible to use a artisan removal kit, as the last upgrade would have no longer been the Artisan Upgrade.
Gem Repair of gathering knives/axes is available at all blacksmithing NPCs. Suggesting removal of that in detailed info. Also suggesting removal of the NPC row in Jewel Upgrades on individual pages as the same applies, as far as I know.
Okay, so I've been trying to upgrade my Dustin Sword, I'll get a Star Sapphire that's over 2 C.M. and it still says I have the wrong Gem Type for the Upgrade, for both upgrades. So... Do you need every Gem listed for the upgrade? Or does your upgrade path effect the type of Jewels you need? As on my Dustin upgrade list the Jewel Upgrade names are different than the names listed on the Dustin Silver Knight Sword page.
