It is mentioned that Ruairi is summoned to meet with Dian. A Cessair intercepting him tells him that she "discovered its whereabouts."
Ruairi talks to Dian, who is afraid they are making the wrong choices for Young Tarlach. She tells him to not follow his emotions as they will only bring himself down, explaining that she abandoned them to do the "right thing," even if it means becoming a monster. Reminding him that his greed cost him everything, she warns him not to let his weakness drive him again. Ruairi simply says he pities her before leaving to continue their plan. Shortly afterwards, Dian is approached by Cessair's Heart, who asks what will happen after she throws everything away. She replies that nothing will remain, calling Cessair's Heart by her real name, "Cecht", revealing to be the other half of Dian. Cecht informs Dian that the preparations for their plans are complete, along with the presence of an intruder.
Treasure Hunter infiltrates Nemeton and finds himself in the Grave of Truth, a room consisting of ancient text. Using The Black Book of Bith, he learns about the origin of Dian Cecht: a deity who was banished and cursed by Irinid for unknown reasons along with her brethren, the Settlers/Ban Clan who were the ancestors of the Cessair, and the outside world had completely forgotten them. Driven by vengeance, Dian sacrificed her emotions and placed them on a Cessair clone that would become Cessair's Heart to allow Dian to make logical decisions without any hesitation to take revenge on all those who had wronged her and her brethren. The final slate notes that with the disappearance of the Gods and thus the lifting of the curse, Dian now had the opportunity to strike back.
Meeting with the rogue mastermind, she reveals Treasure Hunter as the child of Bith, a member of the clan. Treasure Hunter berates her for making constant sacrifices to lead the Cessair, who replies that she will not let the sacrifices be in vain. She ignores him and knocks him unconscious.
Dian, sensing the approaching of new intruders, Merlin and the Milletian, uses her magic to make Merlin hallucinate about Professor J, Starlet, and Tarlach. However, the Milletian appears to be unaffected and eventually manages to snap Merlin out of his hallucination.
Merlin and the Milletian eventually arrive to fight Dian, who possesses Treasure Hunter and summons a barrier that blocks the druid's attacks. Summoning Cessair to defend herself, the Milletian and Merlin eventually push through and defeat Dian. In her dying breath, she says she understood what Bith wanted and had split herself and cast off her emotions to become perfect, but since she had never let her vengeance go, it had ruined all her plans; the desire for revenge only awoke after discovering that Treasure Hunter was alive. Her death then releases Treasure Hunter from her control.
However, even after Dian's death, the ritual surrounding Tarlach and the extraction of the God Fragment from him, which Dian and the Cessair need to complete their plans, has not faded. The group presses forward to the top of the tower.
Young Tarlach mentions that the purpose of Dian's ritual was to sacrifice Tarlach and Ruairi so Dian could become Dian Cecht again, regaining the powers that she inadvertently lost when she cast off her emotions onto Cessair's Heart. With Dian dead, Tarlach and Ruairi plan to use Dian's ritual in their own favor.
