Cores’ Mysterious Roswell | 17 | 23:57, 21 February 2012 |
'Lo.
For the Cores' Mysterious Roswell pictures, if it's not too much trouble can I request you retake them and upload in .png format?
In case you you're having trouble uploading to the wiki: Front, Side, Back, Angled.
Some guidelines to remember can be found in the Image Policy. This may help as well.
Thanks.
When I tried to upload it in .png format, it gave me an error saying: File extension does not match MIME type. The only way I could fix this wasy by uploading the picture in .jpg format. How can I fix this?
Upload the files with the links given above for the appropriate angles.
Also, Akira linked one of my guides for taking very good pictures to appease the wiki standards. It's a little bit hard to follow, but most get the hang of it after some re-reading.
I was trying to upload png files. The only way I got it to work was when saving, the drop down menu was set to .jpg, but i typed .png at the end of the file name. This results in the picture being saved much smaller (eg. 14KB as opposed to 112KB) and uploads properly.
if you're uploading a png file into a jpeg file page, it's gonna make the MIME type error. what you want to do is use the links Akira has up on his post.
I've tried uploading from those links and it's the same error every time. Is what I've been doing for 3/4 of the pictures acceptable anyway?
By the way, you'd have to retake the images and initially save it as a png, and at no point have it as a jpg. Otherwise there is no point because the jpg's discoloration is still present.
Sorry >_< and thank you. I wish it would work for me without the hassle for next time. Why does a jpeg file page exist anyway if we're not supposed to use jpegs?
It's fine, we all make mistakes. For future reference, check the little file extension box under where you type the name of the file. It'll save a lot of trouble. Remember to always hit "Save As" when saving images to confirm the file extension.
FYI, from what I see, .jpgs are slightly more convenient because they take up much less space and yet it provides almost full quality. On the other hand, I've seen an article where a lot of copy-edit-saves over and over the same jpg really degrades the picture to random dots.
Same article also recommends keeping a PNG "master copy".
Ya, that law is clearly evident and exemplified by Musical Knowledge's skill icon. (Although that's with a *.dds, not a *.jpg.) But in my opinion, clarity>space. People look at the images for accuracy, not conservation.
Alright, and yeah I noticed how the png was slightly better quality than the jpg.
Also, this is off-topic, but how do you create a user page? I wanted to use that to preview images but I can't find where to make one.
You can't make a user page until you made at least 30 edits. I think that counts pictures, too.
So long as you press "Show Preview", though, you can preview the images in any page. (Though, be extra careful not to accidentally click save.)
I looked for it but I didn't see a 'show preview' or 'save' button on the edit page for the pictures. Maybe I just missed them somehow
