Learning Life Drain through being drained

So, I had EvG on and used Life Drain on a friend. She's on G1, level is ~200. After using it on her, she seems to have gained Life Drain and can fully use it. What's with this?

Tried on my elf and giant who didn't have life drain. PVP didnt work and neither did elf giant pvp.
