Talk:Secret Shops

From Mabinogi World Wiki

as for now the page seemed to be de-linked from the navigation... maybe it should be put under NPC page for quicker reference for people that are looking for information. --Kgptzac 23:02, 25 June 2008 (PDT)

This issue has been fixed long time ago :p Though I hope we can get the reliable updates for secret shops after every major patch the game has from on. --Kgptzac 08:02, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Empty Bottles

What collection book is that? It's listed under Aeira. It's not on the collection book page. Anyone got info? --- Angevon 23:56, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Link to Scary Library Pass

Can someone make a link to the Scary Library for the Scary Library Pass on Stewart's secret shop. I dont know how to do it. --ZRoc 17:44, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

It's not in his secret shop... User: Heme
Look in the Spellbook section of his shop, if you have gotten his secret shop then it's in there. Unless of course the 10 available per game day have all been sold --ZRoc 17:46, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Nele Dead Links

I corrected the names of the books for Nele but they now have dead links. I don't know how to fix that problem as the old link redirected to the correct ingame book page. I am sorry about leaving that a mess. --Bghty7410 25, May 2009

Nora Secret Shop

I got her secret shop by giving her 18 bread using personal story and rumors after each one. ─┤Hakumei} 00:17, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Aeira secret shop

heh, iv gifted her at least 12 anthologies and 12 cubic puzzles now, but i think the 4 gold idea in between isnt working. her and stewart both seem to dislike geting gold, so anyone who wants those meditation books would probably be better off without giveing them gold.

i think this also goes for nele, both times i gave him 4 gold no convrsation, he said to end conversation --Shadofrak 21:10, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Nele Secret Shop

I got his secret shop by giving him 30 candlesticks using personal story and rumors after each one. It might be useful to note that if he said I should stop talking, I gave him a candlestick instead of continuing to chat with him. --Xmasreturns 22:17, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Verified. I got the secret shop as well, using the method outlined in the article, and gave 30 candlesticks. Once he starts talking about the girl that left him, I believe I gave him just 4 (or was it 5?) more candlesticks (talking about Private Story and Rumors between each) and the shop was open. --Aeteryn 04:12, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Lucas' Secret Shop

It took a total of 30 Wines and 123g to obtain the Rua Brooch but was unable to obtain Lucas' secret shop even after giving him a total of 63 Wines and 261g. Go here for detailed data.

Also, tried on a Sunday (was mentioned somewhere that access may only occur on Sunday), with Rua Brooch in inventory and high intimacy, was getting "(Lucas is really giving me a friendly vibe)" at the start of a conversation, the response to the Private Story keyword started with "One day, I'm going to make my club the biggest in this continent" and the response to the Nearby Rumors keyword started with "This place used to be famous for grapes as well as corn" but still no access to his secret shop.

I'm beginning to think his secret shop doesn't exist or isn't implemented. I have commented out Lucas' secret shop from the table on this page, if you have obtained access then state how on this talk page so it can be verified. --ZRoc (Talk) 10:03, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

Japanese Wiki says it exists, and someone in the comments said they gave him 20 Gift Wines from Glenis. --ZephyreTALK 11:19, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
I gave him over 63 Wines (i.e., the Gift Wines from Glenis) and got nothing. I can't find anything on Google that indicates anyone has actually gotten it (only that they heard someone else did but gave no explanation on how that other person did it). I think it may not be implemented or there is something else that needs to be done besides just giving the gifts and gold coins. --ZRoc (Talk) 12:26, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Wanst's Secret Shop

It took 30k worth of underwear to make the pot of basil available not sure if this is true with every case or as to the fact i might have done it wrong but i used the Private Story and Nearby Rumors keyword after each gift so i suppose i did it right but 30k seems like a lot to me so if somebody could please test this and see the results from their own try that would be great.--Mexh5 08:18, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

One thing to keep in mind is that if you start a conversation and the npc goes something like "It's not a good time to have a conversation/looks like they are busy" end the conversation and gift them again. If you talk to them during that, you lose some points. --Miyuna 14:09, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

I suppose that might be why but either way what kind of dude wants women underwear as a gift? --Mexh5 18:37, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Trust me, some men would... some men... oh ho ho ho.... --Miyuna 19:18, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

lol but yea took 30k made me mad D=--Mexh5 19:26, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Gordon's Secret Shop

I gained access to it, but then I came back a week later and I couldn't access his secret shop. This leads me to believe that it is possible to lose access to secret shops. Kefka 21:54, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

Well, i think it's tied to whether you are friends or not, and after a week, I think pretty much all of the closeness is gone. Sephy 01:04, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Likelihood of Likability

I find that sometimes I require 4 of Likability pots for Aeira with keywords, other times I need 2 without either. I only needed 3 for Agnes without using keywords whereas Gordon took many. I don't really think any of these numbers are accurate or that intimacy in Mabinogi works the way we're thinking.

Pyro - (Talk)17:44, 14 October 2012

Just took 5 potions to open Effie's secret shop. Don't think I'd spoken to her recently, so this was probably starting from zero memory/stress/favour.

Librarian (talk)22:46, 26 July 2019

I've noticed it can vary too, i think i've used like 10 before on an npc

Blurpo (talk)07:35, 28 July 2019

From my experience, I've found it best to treat likeability potions like any other gift item, taking stress into account. So make sure you check their mood and "refresh" the NPC if necessary between batches.

Kitkat (talk)20:27, 28 July 2019

yeah, the info makes it sound like it's always going to be that number & that you just gift them the amount of pots & they'll give you access to their shop, but they do get stressed from it. with agnes, she only needed 5 or 6, but i did use a keyword with her before gifting. with nora, she needed the exact number listed, no keywords at all. with gordon, i've gifted him the 7 that's listed, but he still won't grant access. it seems like memory helps in cases with ~5 pots so npcs don't get stressed after receiving the same gift repeatedly & that likeability pots DO stress them out to the point where 7 pots in succession & a keyword won't get you access

NPCs require "memory" in order to open their secret shop.

Talking to an NPC too much causes them stress, but that has falsely lead people to believe that they should not talk to them at all during gifting.

The fact is that the NPC MUST have a high enough "memory" of you in order to open their shop, and the easiest way to do this is to talk to them with keywords.

Link to logic/math source is in the comments there too.

I've edited the instructions on the page accordingly.

Buying multiple copies

Just opened Gordon's secret shop, and bought 3 copies of each of the relevant cooking skill books, passing the spares to my other 2 characters via the bank. This surprised me, because I had a clear memory that on a previous occasion when I bought a skill book from an NPC, the NPC only had 1 copy of the book, so that after I bought it the secret shop tab was empty. This meant all 3 of my characters had to unlock that secret shop to get a copy of the book. Unfortunately, I can't remember for sure which NPC that was, but suspect Nora or Agnes.

So, this means either

1. The secret shop mechanics have changed, and all secret shops now have multiple copies of each item; 2. Some shops have multiple copies and some don't, in which case it would be useful if we document which ones are which; or 3. I'm getting too old and shouldn't trust my memory anymore.

I'm hoping someone can confirm one of the first 2 options.

Incidentally, after 65 ring gifts failed to open Gordon's shop, I gave up and did rafting missions for likeability potions, eventually opening the secret shop after gifting 5 potions.

Librarian (talk)21:58, 11 September 2015

If it counts, I don't remember secret shop books ever having disappeared from the shop after purchasing.

Perhaps you must have gotten it confused for something else. To my knowledge, Stewart's secret shop's scary library passes and Glewyas' normal shop's kitchen dungeon passes are the only items that are in limited stock.

Gordon's Secret Shop

Okay so I gave Gordon 68 gift rings and still haven't unlocked his secret shop. I honestly do not believe that this method is how you're supposed to unlock shops.

Btw that's 34k I wasted, I should have just bought likeability potions.

Kind of frustrated about this.

Lillysky (talk)16:53, 9 June 2015

So I haven't talked with Gordon or anything since the 9th, so today I'm going to try unlocking by using keywords and gold. Will report how long that took me.

Lillysky (talk)10:31, 13 June 2015

~30 Gift Rings with no gold and alternating keywords. He hit the 'it would be better to stop this conversation' once but I didn't give him any gold and he got over it. More evidence that not using keywords doesn't work.

Lillysky (talk)11:02, 13 June 2015

Stewart's Secret Shop

For anyone curious, it took me 24 breads and 16 gold, using alternating keywords.

Lillysky (talk)15:28, 6 June 2015

"Alternating Keywords"... :/

The data, particularly on "how much of this item is needed to unlock", is pretty bad. It's been claimed and proven that starting a conversation and using keywords stresses the NPC.

Pretty sure the original intention was least amount of said item, which isn't the case here.

Infodude575 (talk)17:48, 6 June 2015

Yes, talking to NPC increases stress, but it is also required in order to increase memory, which is also required to unlock Secret Shops.

Has anyone ever tried doing something like, 3 gifts per keyword? Like you'd go: gift-gift-gift-keyword repeat? Perhaps there's a way we can reduce the amount of stress they get while increasing the memory?

Lillysky (talk)10:32, 13 June 2015

Which, unfortunately, may end up doing more harm than good. Talking to them with Private Story + Nearby Rumors after every gift definitely seems like a bad idea.

Infodude575 (talk)19:23, 6 June 2015

I tried unlocking Nora's shop without keywords and just using bread and it did not help whatsoever. From what I saw her friendlyness either didn't go up or only went up by a small amount. I switched to using underwear sets and she liked the gifts but even after 20k of gifts, I didn't unlock her shop.

Thus I decided to use bread and keywords and after a number of breads and some gold, I unlocked it.

Therefore I do not believe currently that Private Story and Nearby Rumors is a bad idea.

If someone can prove me wrong, please do so because secret shops are horribly tedious, but for now I've found using keywords and gold to be the best method.

Lillysky (talk)09:50, 7 June 2015

Someone told me he unlocked Agnes's secret shop faster without keywords as opposed to with.

Infodude575 (talk)10:50, 7 June 2015

Okay, well tomorrow if I have time I will try to unlock Gordon's secret shop, without using keywords. I'll provide my data, but we're going to need someone else's data using keywords to test against. And if I learned anything from taking Statistics, we're going to need multiple trials.
