Talk:Playing Instrument
Master Title
I editted the title after seeing Umbrasquall of Tarlach server. He's too pro. But if I read it wrong, change it. == Kentngo
Not implemented?
We can get past Rank 5 Playing Instrument. You just need to do it through random music which takes a lot of patience. --Kendoza 20:32, 15 October 2008 (PST)
- Okay, changed it. --- Angevon
Wow that was fast o.O --Kendoza
Great Success
You don't need a scroll in order to get a great success. Being a Mage, I've ranked Composition and Music Theory but left Playing Instrument behind to save on AP. But since we have magic music now, I've decided to rank it. My point is, I don't know if having higher ranks in Comp and Theory do anything, but I've been getting great successes without using scrolls. Also, if scrolls were needed, then that would cause a snag in mastering Playing as Comp currently goes up to Rank 6. And even if Rank 1 was implemented, it's still not 1 rank above the highest rank for Playing. -- Saphryu 04:49, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
- Mabinogi considers Default music as a higher rank as your Playing Instrument skill then. --Kevin 05:35, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
- Not necessarily. I've also gotten a message along the lines of "The song played fine, but it was too easy" which probably means it was played perfect but the difficulty level was at or below the Playing rank. So, the default songs are probably a collection of many different ranks, meaning if you play without a scroll, if you get a perfect, there's a chance you won't get credit for it since it could be a low rank. Which is why scrolls are probably better. -- Saphryu 22:58, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
Rank5+
How do I get past rank 5 if you cant compose them. Musical Knowledge only goes up to rank 6. >_o --κєνıи (»тαıĸ«) 22:27, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- Play Instrument on default music. Good luck. From, r1 Bard --Kentngo 15:54, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
Playing Instrument Ranking
I added a small amount of information on ranking up playing instrument. Almost at Master Instrumentalist, 564 Great Successes to go. So I found out only 6 songs give Great Successes at Rank 1. --Kentngo 16:32, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Musical Knowledge and Composing
So, to get succeses and such, do you need to rank both composing and musical knowledge? Or can you keep composing F, and just rank musical knowledge? For making the scrolls with a space. Kabuto12321 14:13, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- You can do that, but you need composing at r9 in order to make magic music. Also, in the event that you make a score that is not training music, odds are it will be cut of in the end because you need more room. --Haven923 15:00, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Is it purely random or does Musical Knowledge and Composing have some effect on Playing Music?
Right now my Music Knowledge is 6 and Composing is 7, and all I'm doing is playing default music.
Be more... elaborate, please?
8 years later, but musical knowledge increases the chances of success AND great success but i'm not sure of the specifics. for the most part, as long as you meet the requirements for success or great success, you'll have a random chance to get either of them. iirc dexterity plays a small part in your chances to get positive results but i'm not sure if luck & int matter.
So I was doing Barry's Part-time jobs and I've noticed the messages of Playing Instrument success/fail were changed, like normal successes say "You did a fine job". The current list needs to be adjusted to match what it says now.
To fully train Playing Instrument, I need to learn a music buff skill. The problem is to learn music buff skills, I need to learn Playing Instrument first! Has anyone who has Playing Instrument novice fully trained theirs?
You don't need to use music buff skills to complete rank Novice. Just play any default song and you can advance it.
O-o Why the hell is it a requirement for Novice when you actually can't learn one at that point?
Since this video is just a sample of just one-person, would it be easier to leave the current one or replace it with this? [1]
I'm not sure if this glitch is exclusive to rank 6 or what. After the bard update, my rank 6 automatically had the grow crops, attack enemies, and use buffs requirements fulfilled without me doing anything. (Trying to fullfill them does nothing.) And even though they're fulfilled, they do not contribute to the skill's experience.
New skill training was added with the Bard patch. When new training is added, current ranks have them all fulfilled, but with no training exp added. If you want to train using those methods, you will have to derank and rank it again.
Twas what I thought, but $2.50 is pretty steep for just one rank. x .x Is that mentioned anywhere on the wiki? If not we should add it.
And I highly doubt it's a glitch. It's to prevent having people who already have master titles of the skill to have to re-master it. If new requirements are added at 0 completion, they will be missing points and therefore not be complete with skill training.
But that's stupid to apply it to a non-R1 skill...
I still don't think that's justification. If anything we should be removing glitches from normal pages and instead linking to the bugs section and adding more headers.
Does this mean that people who had r5 composing before the update won't be able to rank it further (w/o buying a reset)? Because mine was r5 before the update and now the one requirement is 'completed,' but I have no points in the skill and reading the book have me none. The same probably goes for people who had r4 MK before the update, but mine was only r6.
changed AGAIN
looks like Bard got partially implemented...
I've seen 3 people in Alexina have "Master Instrumentalist." Before we have today's autoplay, everyone used an auto-clicker/macro to afk play their instrument for...days if not weeks on end. It is indeed possible with default music but with the recent scrolls, I think it'd be easier to attain. Not unattainable, but more rather long and "hard" work. x.x...Only rank 7 on my bard and gave up the afk play idea.
So you CAN get great successes with default music? Because I was told the difficulty of default music is also Musical Knowledge-dependent and the quote seems to imply you can't get great successes with default music in such a situation.
you can. It's rather low, but it's possible. I'm not sure if I'm taking into account the person's knowledge rank. I know it is possible to get great successes with defaults.
This is what's conflicting me, I was under the impression that not only scrolls you compose but default music you play is equivalent to your Musical Knowledge rank, and that you can only get great successes when your Musical Knowledge rank is equal to or higher than your Playing Instrument rank. (And Musical Knowledge being capped at r4 will prevent you from getting great successes if your Playing Instrument rank is 3 or higher.)
I wouldn't know how the three people I saw had master instrumentalist. 2 of the 3 were before homesteads were implemented. one was after. Maybe they found a work around, or perhaps default spamming actually did something beyond the rank of knowledge? :x
You make it sound like they reached a form of enlightenment. XD But either way, before we officially edit the page, we should test this? (Before G16S2 because Musical gets uncapped by then.) Although I'm probably not going to continue training music skills soon.
Ehh...I'm not touching music until I get funds for skill books for Music related skills for my dead bard...may end up waiting til G16s2, but probably won't be around for that long. I guess this sounds like something worth doing, but that amount of time is something I don't have. *lacking patience for some reason nowadays*
umm I'm not sure if this will help but each song in score.xml has a difficulty attribute of course that doesn't necessarily mean anything Pyro's theory could easily be valid.
Also you may want to consider checking out Playing_Instrument/Default_Song_List which has the difficulties mapped to ranks and their appears to be a fair few songs which are r1...
Hmm, some of those default songs are r1 so that would explain that... That would mean you really can get great successes at r1.
hmm my farfetched theory was actually true...problem is are these songs accessible after reaching a playing rank, or is that where knowledge comes into play and the character just knows the song by heart after reaching said rank?
hmm its really hard to say the bottom line is I just don't know I guess if i ever stopped being lazy for a day i could get on a mule character with rank F playing and rank F musical knowledge and see if i ever play a rank 1 song.
although even if it is possible to play r1 songs with rF skills there is still the possibility that ranking those skill increases your chance of playing a higher difficulty song.
sorry i can't give you a conclusive answer.
