Hello and welcome to Mabinogi World Wiki100! In order to provide a fun and informative experience for all users, we have some ground rules for you to follow.

If this is your first time here, you should also look at The Editor Hub to get your bearings on how to actually use the functionality on the wiki and how to meet our quality standards.

The rules boil down to a few simple ideas: be respectful; don't use mods; only post in-game information, media, etc. on the main pages; and do everything you can to remove yourself from your contributions on main pages. Common sense, right?

Please be aware that in order to make an account you must be age 13 or older. However, you may still view the wiki (with parental consent, of course!) if you are younger than 13.

Contribution

For a technical content specification see here

When you contribute information, we do have some standards of quality we wish to maintain. These are pretty simple; things like proper (American) English, only posting 100% quality PNG or GIF100 images, and maintaining professionalism throughout.

All contribution rules discussed here refer to main pages only! There are no content restrictions in the User or Talk spaces100.

Textual Content

For an in-depth guide on how to tackle textual content on the wiki, see Mabinogi World Wiki:Text Guide.
Good Bad
Macha is the Goddess of War and Destruction100. She is described in the book Macha According to Emain Macha100. Macha is one hell100 of a babe100. I love her!!100 She also might be Aer.100
Accurate information, proper writing, professional sounding, and uses a link nicely. Entirely opinionated and speculatory. More about the writer than the topic of the article.
Textual content must be relevant to the page and contain only material from within the game100. That means no speculation, discussion, opinion, assumptions, unofficial information, jokes, player-made content100, or
unrelated mythos
100
. If you are posting foreign content, realize that machine translations (especially from East Asian languages) are terrible and you may not use information from them. It is recommended that if it is verbatim content from the game100 that you leave it in the original Korean. However, you may provide a manual translation if you know the language. Please do not add redundant information, either. If you move information from a poor summary to elsewhere in the article, please remove the old information.

You must write it professionally, like an encyclopedia! Of course, writing it simply is preferred. Not all players are from English-speaking countries! Professionalism more pertains to writing facts factually; not using slang, shorthand, or curse words; and so forth.

Media

For an in-depth guide on how to submit accurate, rule-abiding media, see Mabinogi World Wiki:Media Guide.
PNGs are good! JPGs are bad!
EXgood quality.png EXbad quality.jpg

We only want the highest quality images for our pages! Note that the maximum file resolution allowed 3840 x 2160 pixels.

We require that images be saved as PNG, or GIF if they need animation. That's because they're lossless formats, meaning they don't lose any image information like JPG100 does.

Besides image quality, images must lack as much distraction as possible. This includes

100
, complex backgrounds100, too much excess, use of gestures100, and names or other unnecessary text. You must also turn off the Glow Effect, Outline Rendering, and Film Style Post Shader in options.

Images in underwear may be inappropriate to some viewers, so please wear plain clothing100 when taking pictures of other things.

Item images must also not be of black and/or white items, because it erases some details like stitching. Preferably, you would take a picture of clothing in hideous but highly different colors per part. This, of course, does not extend to items of fixed colors.

When the images are meant to be used side by side in a gallery, be sure to keep the dimensions of each image consistent.

It takes special mention that you must not post pictures of client modifications and do not edit the screenshots100 besides cropping them. If it's an instructional image that requires some text, that's fine, of course. However, don't add fluff like outlines or smiley faces.

Videos

Videos are a great way to expand an article by exampling the use of a skill or how to play a minigame. They could even be used to show how to play an event. However, they should not be used when unnecessary, like for clothing or even animations.

Videos must specifically be made for use on the wiki, by you, the poster. Please hide your name100, the chat100, and if possible it would be nice if you could hide your interface100 or at least all unnecessary windows. You may make them on foreign servers, but they should be updated when the content is available on NA servers.

Obviously you may not record mods or glitches. However, you must also be sure to not change the music from the default Mabinogi music, or ideally have no music at all. Of course, whether the music is muted or not is at your discretion, based on what the video is intending to do.

Feel free to add related, informative text to your videos. However, be careful as to not obstruct the action!

Media that does not follow the policy will be replaced, removed or deleted without a notice.

User Pages

In the user space, you may write however you like, about almost whatever you like! Of course, it still has to be respectful. However, do not add your base page to any categories and be sure to avoid templates that do so. This does not extend to sub-pages, for instance, which may be a guide.

If you are going to maintain a user page, and thereby use our services for your own promotion, we expect that you contribute back to the wiki thoroughly and regularly. It's only right!

Respect

If you use content from elsewhere, even if it's reworded or translated, please credit the original authors with a reference link. This does not extend to official Nexon content such as in-game text or other details nor out-of-game content such as shop item descriptions or news posts.

Don't be a jerk! Don't vandalize pages or post on user pages that aren't your own without permission. Also be kind, calm, and respectful when dealing with others.

Do not lie100, cheat100, or steal100! Also please do not share any offensive100 or promotional content.

All caps is yelling, don't do it unless you're yelling. Try not to yell often, we like a happy atmosphere!

Don't replace images or videos that already follow the policy, it's not very nice.

The Role of Moderators

Moderators, listed here, are tasked with managing the users and quality of the wiki. Their role is to solve arguments, enforce the rules, and moderate edits to ensure quality based on these rules and whatever they're told by administrators.

As a user, you are not allowed to revert a moderator's edit (unless the edit was done on behalf of a person who is not a moderator, which the edit message would say). You may discuss it with that moderator on the talk page, but you are not allowed to revert it in any form. Their edits are considered formal decisions, be they to solve an argument, to exact an administrative ruling, or simply to bring a portion of the wiki up to quality standards. More or less, all of their decisions (in the form of main page edits) should be assumed to be right and correct.

If you have an issue with a moderator's opinion, contact them directly. If you have an issue with a moderator's behavior, contact an administrator directly.

Other Tidbits

Each account is for one person only, not for guilds, not for families, just you! Similarly, each user may only have one account.

You never need to use the signature wikitext anymore, so don't. Similarly, you should obviously never sign pages in any way. Your contribution is stored in the history of the page automatically.

Talk pages are meant to discuss the article at hand rather than in-game things. If you need opinions on whether it's a good weapon or whatever, try the forums.

If you need a moderator, you can either post on the forums in the wiki section, bug us on Discord (#mabi-wiki channel, note this is the official Discord, and is not run by us), or consult this page to contact someone directly.

From all of us at Mabinogi World, we hope you have a wonderful fantasy life!

This aims to be a highly detailed and technical specification for how content works on the wiki. For a summary, see here

For a list of technical terms, see Mabinogi World Wiki:Editor Glossary.

What content is

Textual content is text written on the wiki within the main namespaces (or also just "spaces") of the wiki. Media content is an image, video, or audio displayed on the wiki within the main namespaces.

Main namespaces includes those pages which are either not contained in any namespace or is in one of the following namespaces:

Content can be descriptive, supportive, or report data. Content may be found in other namespaces, such as talk, and are governed by the same rules and stipulations. However, you may find more types of contributions than content in these spaces. All content must be accessible either directly or by means of testing & research from a clean client alone. To put it another way, one must be able to reproduce all content by only using the client as a source of data.

Descriptive content

Descriptive content is content such that it describes an object, event, place, NPC, story, ability, concept, or process within the game. Description is factual in nature and does not use subjective terms or subject matters such as, but not limited to, quality of appearance. It is generally done in words rather than numbers. Descriptions are considered claims of facts present in Mabinogi that should be indisputable.

  • If you are not 100% certain of the authenticity of a claim, seek feedback in the talk space of the relevant page.

Supportive content

Supportive content is content such that it backs up claims made or provides examples. The primary way of backing up a claim in main spaces is in the form of linking to other wiki pages. In talk and user spaces, one may also provide supporting evidence such as research data. An author may provide examples of a categorization or process. In terms of categorization this means providing a subset of applicable contents.

  • For example, "This skill applies to blunt weapons (such as clubs and maces)." In terms of an example process, this applies to all video demonstrations, upgrade sequences, combat strategies, and similar.

Report data

Report data refers to content taken directly from the game. This includes dialogue, in-game descriptions (such as of items or skills), icons, screenshots of equipment (though the color scheme of items without fixed color schemes must be considered an example), and so forth.

Collaborative research

If the nature of a page or section is that it's intended for collaborative research, it is allowed to contain incorrect information, public research methods, probabilistic information, numbers and/or lists of attempts, annotations and clarifications of information (such as: "?", unsure, pretty sure, this is what I've done so far, etc).

  • However, in order to be considered a page or section intended for research, it must include the research template at the top of the respective page or section. When creating a new section for research you should make a new page instead; the section-specific designation should only be applied to current sections that have been deemed not factual enough.

These research constructions are also considered content within this policy as long as the template requirement is satisfied.

  • The template requirement does not apply outside of main spaces but is allowed for relevant pages in the user space.

Main space content should seek to help the wiki audience. Any main space content which is not deemed helpful to a player's Mabinogi experience may be subject to removal.

Where can I get data?

Anywhere. However, it must abide by our specification of content as per usual. Consider, also, that any information presented as current must be assuredly determined to be relevant to the current NA release of Mabinogi.

If data is sourced from foreign editions of the game or news posts regarding future content it must be marked as Template:Unreleased Content. Some people stage foreign or future content in their user space instead of main spaces but this is not required. However, before creating a new page for such content, be sure to search for its existence elsewhere.

The North American Public Test Server is no longer active, however this is the only source from which data collection is banned. If the server is ever reinstated this rule will persist. This rule remains active for previous content released on NA PTS that did not make it into the official release.

You are responsible for any media you upload to the wiki, even if it is not yours. This confirms authenticity and acceptability of the content enough for you to take responsibility for posting it as well as avoids any conflict that may occur between the author and you or the staff.

User space & Talk pages

When these spaces contain content it must abide by the same content rules. However, other forms of contribution in these spaces do not need to follow these rules. Of particular note, questions may contain what looks like content but a question is not considered content.

These spaces may also contain speculation, discussion, content from outside of the game (so long as it abides by Nexon's ToS and our policy), opinions, and suggestions. These spaces may not contain things such as trade requests or offers, giveaways, or advertisements.

User pages may contain personal information, such as your skill ranks and guild. A user has total control over the contents and write access to the pages in their user space. You may not edit pages in another user's space without express permission.

Talk page content associated with a page in the main space must be relevant to that page. Similarly, talk page content associated with a root user page must be relevant to or include that user.

Contributing content

In main spaces you may contribute only content. This includes corrections to content in meaning, form, and lexico-grammatical ways. You may not completely remove content from a page that is in accordance with our policy, however this does not prevent you from presenting the data in a different or more summarized way so long as all the content is still represented in some way.

You are held responsible for all content you contribute, in terms of authenticity, correctness, observation of established standards, and accordance to both our policy and Nexon's ToS. However, you are and cannot be held responsible for completeness; it is the job of the community at large to strive for completeness. Other users are permitted to correct these mistakes as well; however, if it becomes a common problem, your editing rights may be revoked indefinitely100.

You do not have to justify every edit you make, though you may be asked to defend it. Keep in mind all established rules here when defending it.

If a disagreement occurs, a reversion may happen. You must respect this reversion, even if done by another user, and prefer to discuss the issue in the talk page for that page. If the matter was discussed and the contribution at issue was restored, future users who take issue must respect this restoration and not revert the page further. However, these users may still voice their disagreement and discuss the matter in the relevant thread.

If an administrator or moderator (collectively considered moderators) reverts a contribution or makes an edit as a deciding factor in a tensioned discussion, argument, issue, or etc. it is an offense to revert it. These are to be considered final judgments and an explicit end to the argument. If one takes further issue it must be presented as an appeal to the moderator on that moderator's talk page.

Public research methods

Though Mabinogi World actively takes the stance of neither supporting nor condemning forbidden actions and methods, you may only discuss any method of research (and implicitly defend its results) so long as it complies with Nexon's ToS. This rule is only applicable to places operated by Mabinogi World, including: this wiki, the forum, our Facebook page, our twitter including messages directed at our twitter. This also applies to any web page you link within this network in that if it infringes it will be removed or requested that you remove it (or us) from the tweet.

Public research methods include:

  • Collecting raw data as presented in game, such as descriptions or stats of items and skills.
  • Using known mathematical formulas to calculate stats not directly visible such as defense and protection.
  • Recording large amounts data, such as damage, and using statistical models to provide estimations of your goal that are as accurate as possible.
  • Testing methods against varying sets of conditions in order to ascertain accurate examples, such as combat strategies.
