Weapon Template Issues

Weapon Template Issues

I would of added something to the existing discussion on the main page, but it's a huge mess. So I'll add my input here.

I greatly dislike the way the current "updated" template,it's very unappealing to the eyes and it just made me dislike it instantly.

I found that it's because of the Repairs sections. It's so squished and crunched in the middle so I purpose to move it to the end of at design. It's not only more pleasing to the eyes, it's alphabetically correct.

I made a paint edit myself, and I'd love if you would take a look and consider it. Image: http://img803.imageshack.us/img803/7894/templateedit.jpg

Then the second issue I noticed was the spirit weapons page on the updated weapons template. You do not have to have anything but the item's base stats for the start of a spirit weapon, and the information levels. The dyeing information, and upgrades can't apply to them, so why use almost double the amount of space PER weapons page?

Thanks for your time.

...And this is why I asked for suggestions during the creation of the template. Kills the point entirely if people don't contribute, eh?

The width of the repairs section can easily be widened, but I tried to keep it to a minimum width in consideration of the people who still own those tiny ass screens. If it weren't for that, the template would probably be stretched a lot wider. For that, the current width seems adequate enough for any possible length of repairs while still being kept small enough so you wouldn't have to go scrolling around in order to find everything.

As for the suggestion to move the repair section over to the right, imo, it looks even weirder with the color in the middle, but changes can be easily made with sufficient support for your suggestion.

I didn't see why not put the spirit version. Mainly placed for ranged egos to easily check the range of the ego'd version without having to go to that one spirit weapon page with all the crap listed. I have no idea what you mean by dyeing information and upgrades, since neither are in the template other than the "not_dyeable" being read by the template because I didn't bother to take out much for the spirit template. The length of the page is not even closed to doubled by the spirit template, not to mention it still has information that can be taken out because it doesnt pertain to any spirit weapon whatsoever..

Considering just the size of the template, both templates (spirit being 16kb, normal being 28kb), all unused parameters are taken out once the template is printed onto the page. Taking Short Sword as an example, the template sizes go from (previously listed) to spirit : 6kb, normal: 14kb. That's nothing...

This was already implemented, I didn't find out about this change until an hour or two before I made the previous post, and do not visit more than a handful of pages on this wiki when needed. So it was impossible for me to suggest anything during that time frame.

If it has to remain in the middle, I'd assume widening the Repairs section to a maximum of up to 50% more than the current width should suffice for a less crowded look, but yet won't make it that much longer overall from what I can see. Just enough to give it a separate look basically. As it is, it looks like there is no center option on the text for the repair rate and gold cost, which is pretty irritating to look at as well.

As for the repairs on the end, I honestly thought it looked nice from my perspective. But if it can't be changed, then what I said above is all that irks me about it.

I like the spirit weapon portion I can say that much, but what I meant was when you access that page, you have to scroll down all the way to the bottom to see the stats at X levels for X stats. The Blacksmithing requirements, Dye Details, Upgrades and Gem upgrades areas are what I refer to about the spirit weapons section. You can already find everything about that on the normal page, and I would just have to scroll down a little bit more for the levels/stats, so what's the point of a spirit weapons section if I have to scroll over everything again?

And I guess I what I meant by space what this above, it's essentially making 2 pages in 1 with almost identical information. Just the spirit version is changed to match the stats of said weapon once made into a spirit weapon.

Finally, thank you for a reply.

The text in the repair section can easily be put back into centering. I aligned it to the left cause I thought it'd be better if the percentages were aligned, rather than having them all in crazy spaces.

I don't see what you mean by having to scroll over everything again... you're not required to click on the spirit tab.

I guess if that's an issue, then I'm not sure what to say. It was like that before the change, no? What's so bad about having a slightly off aligned percent set, compared to a left aligned set but facing a squished look? They both have issues with how it looks, but center was better imo. That won't change because of that reason alone.

And I know it's not required to look at that, but if a user want's to look at that tab, they'll see almost the same thing. So then, outside of the base stats of a spirit weapon upon creation, what purpose would that tab hold I ask?

And then finally if nothing will be changed about this template, would there be any chance/way to keep the old template styles available to see by users in the settings or something? Having something like that would solve all my issues I have, since I won't be forced to look at something I currently find difficult to look at.

If I may, I would like to say that I can see where Zarric is coming from on the situation and that I fully support their suggestion of where to put the repair percentages and in all respects, it does look a lot better there.

Also for the limitations section is color really needed? A simple Check or X in black white would work just as good. I mean, even with color, people will still make the same common mistakes over and over.

(I wasn't around when the discussion on the main page was taking place and I do apologize for this.)
