Merchant for Commerce

How does Merchant affect Commerce besides the Smuggler. I hear from a friend that Merchants get more rewards for that?

There's increased PTJ rewards and luck on level up... At least that's more gold... I really don't think increased ducat rewards would be balanced... (Commerce rewarding gold at all is unbalanced...)
