Template talk:StyleMonster/doc
Do we really need to make an entire DeadEiry section on monsters? Why not just replace the old monsters with the new template? Not like change Template:Monster to StyleMonster. Replace the current code in the monster pages w/ {temp:Monster} --Kevin (•Talk•) 07:03, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
- I agree. Dead Eiry is kind of a failure because it was abandoned by the person who wrote it. It took me around a month and 500 edits to fix/finish the cooked foods and most of the foods were already done. There is way more monsters than cooked foods so think of the amount of work you're going to have to do. Dead Eiry is also confusing for people who casually edit so you're not going to get much help. -Fifty 07:15, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
- shrug I'm willing to help after I get enchants done. =\ -- Ladywinter 22:15, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Gold Section
Why is the template showing "3,500~" for any gold section that is left blank? It wasn't doing this the other day.. --Aramet 01:52, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- Nevermind, I fixed it. Wuberfeca had changed the coding from "None" to "3,500~". --Aramet 21:23, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Description/Clarification of Aggression Section Symbols
I know that the symbols ,, ect. are supposed to be self explanatory, but they can be a bit confusing. Maybe since the word "Aggression" links to the page Aggro, someone could put a quick explanation of the symbols there? Because for a while there I had no clue what the radar or stopwatch meant... /swt --Js16 06:10, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
OCD Attack D:
Before I get started here, I'm sorry to say that I've already begun making these very minor changes to the layout of these two sections before consulting anybody. I just took a look at the whole thing, and noticed these info boxes were very messy and inconsistent. Therefore, I felt the need to patch it up, so this is what I wrote up on my user page to organize my thoughts:
START
Monster Templates
I've become OCD about the monster template, so if you're editing and/or making these, please do the following to reduce inconsistencies with the layout of data and universalize all the tables (plus, it looks better this way):
Generally,
- Do not make up values. Use the format specified here.
- Use "Very Fast/Fast/Normal/Slow/Very Slow" and not "Extremely Fast" for monster speed.
- Add a comma at each triplet for a numerical value 'except CP.
- Preview and check all of your links to see if they go to the correct place!
In the Field info box,
- Link to the name of the field that the monsters appear.
- If they are in a very specific location, use parenthesis ( ) to clarify.
- Do not use parenthesis ( ) to indicate Field Bosses, because they should already be classified under ==Field Boss==, unless the monster is a Field Boss in one location, and then something else in another location.
- Black Wizard is a Field Boss for Gairech Hill, but a regular Boss monster in Barri Brown Fomor Pass, therefore, you must clarify by writing *Gairech Hill (Locations) (Field Boss) in the Field info box and *Barri Brown Fomor Pass (Boss) in the Dungeon info box.
- If a field boss has its location specified as well as an image linking to the area, write *Map_Name (Specified_Area).
- Example:
In the Dungeon info box,
- List out each dungeon on its own bullet (*)
- Use the entire dungeon's name, and link it all of the to the right place! No abbreviations such as "Adv" in place of "Advanced."
- If you want to link to Ciar Advanced for Two, write out *Ciar Advanced for Two
- If a monster appears in ALL Rundal Advanced dungeons (Unlimited, for Two, and for Three), write *Rundal Advanced. However, if it only appears in Rundal Advanced Unlimited and Rundal Advanced for Three, write out *Rundal Advanced Unlimited and *Rundal Advanced for Three to link viewers to the exact location.
- Indicate in parenthesis ( ) if the monster is a boss, but do not link it. You must do this for all dungeon bosses because even though they are classified under ==Boss==, there are some monsters that are bosses in one place, but not another (ie. Werewolves).
- Write out *Barri Basic (Boss)
- Example:
In the Loot (Equipment and Misc) info boxes,
- List everything out, and link them if possible!
- Don't put "*Base/Mana/Sunlight Herb." Write out *Base Herb, *Mana Herb, and *Sunlight Herb in their own separate bullets (*) instead.
- Make sure that Dungeon Passes link to *Dungeon_Pass#Correct_Dungeon_Here.
- Arrows, Bolts, and Magic Powders belong under the Misc section because they are technically not equipments.
- If a monster gives regular EXP and Exploration EXP upon being defeated, follow this format:
- <Regular_EXP_Amount> EXP<br><Exploration_EXP_Amount> Exploration
- The template will automatically add the last "EXP" to the end of the line, so it'll appear as "Exploration EXP."
- See Giant Sand Worm for a reference.
- <Regular_EXP_Amount> EXP<br><Exploration_EXP_Amount> Exploration
I'm extremely picky when it comes to aesthetics. Make it look nice! This section may be updated if I find anything else that needs to be homogenized.
FINISH
Hope you guys don't mind that I've already done this to a lot of the blue monster templates, and I want to apply this to the rest of them that are made. I believe that it looks a lot nicer, finally makes them all look the same, and it's easier to click on things. On some monsters, people were linking to single-digit numbers (if it was a pass for a certain amount of people). It drove me nuts.
Any thoughts...? --Powder Rune 06:16, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
I updated the above and added two new sections: "Generally" and "Loot." Also, let's go ahead and make this official, since I don't see anyone else submitting a solution regarding the tables' consistency. Just let me know if there's anything else that needs to be added and/or changed. --Powder Rune 03:21, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
Updated a bit to all sections, specifically changing rules for:
- parenthesis ( ) with Field Bosses and Bosses
- how to properly link monster locations
- how to fill out the EXP info box for monsters that give both regular EXP and Exploration EXP
Open for suggestions, as usual. --Powder Rune 20:13, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- Eh, Rune, could we start shortening some of the dungeon names? Some of the Intermediate dungeons get really long. Could we perhaps make it "Int." for short? Similar problem with "Albey Pendant of the Goddess". Would "Albey Goddess Pendant" do? Or even "Albey Goddess"? It simply looks better when the names are relatively the same length. ---Angevon 02:40, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Sure, Albey Goddess actually does sound better. I was just trying to go by what the page was redirected to, but I guess it's still too long, heh. I guess this means I'll also shorten the Irian dungeon names, and make new redirects. I'd rather keep Intermediate and Advanced written out, though =/ --Powder Rune 03:10, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I made redirects to practically everything that wasn't there already, except for all the special Karu dungeons because their names seem very long no matter what I type... I'll figure something out soon enough. Now, there's no longer a need to type out Ciar Advanced for Two, because now you can just link Ciar Advanced for Two! --Powder Rune 20:35, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Additional Offensive Stat
Sometimes it's useful to know whether or not a given monster has any chance of a critical hit, and what chance they have of it. I'd like there to be an additional stat that indicates what a monster's critical chance is. Yes, I know we don't have that information right now, and it's not going to be easy to find. So we could start with whether or not they have ANY chance, and work for a number from there. Thoughts? --Doomsday 21:29, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
Shadow Monsters
Is there going to be a similar template for shadow monsters cause the current one doesn't really match up with the normal monster template.--Hikarixz 01:56, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
- Personally, I'd rather the normal monster template be made to look like the shadow monster template. The normal monster template is too wide and cumbersome. But, I'm the one who made the shadow monster template so of course I plan to resist any changes to it. --- Angevon (Talk) 16:24, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

According to User:Jiuhin and some forumers, monsters have the Enlightenment Protection to Effective Reduction formula. Should the monster template list the Protection stat value or the Effective Reduction value?
a way to make the edit link actually redirect to the template? notable examples include:
- Black Dragon Knight (Monster): Template:DataMonsterBlack Dragon Knight (Monster)
- Event Monsters#Trickster (Monster): Template:DataMonsterTrickster (Monster)
- Duke (Monster): Template:DataMonsterDuke (Monster)
Clicking the edit link leads to a "Create a page for this link" page, or in the case of the Trickster, editing the wrong template page.
Assuming the {Page} parameter in every monster template leads to the correct Template:DataMonster{Page}, the links should probably be changed to direct to that page rather than {Name}. Unfortunately, there are too many pages to just assume that (unless you know that's what the parameter is for) and the project has grown too large to check each page manually (unless you literally have nothing better to do).
