Talk:Metal Conversion

From Mabinogi World Wiki

So is "Metal extraction" going to be the official english name of this skill? Since the action is completely transforming one metal into another, no actual "extraction" is taking place. Alchemy would have been the most accurate name, but it's already the name of the category. Perhaps "Transmutation" would be a better title? Kong 06:12, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

I's too far ahead in the future for NA to have given us an official name. So, for now, we are using the alt English text that foreign servers have on all future items and skills. ---Angevon 15:27, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

In Taiwan Mabinogi this skill is called Metal Conversion. Perhaps this will be the name NA will go for. MarleTW 01:58, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

What are these new metals made from this skill used for? --Bryanneo 14:31, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Maybe they're used as ego food? xD I can only wonder, it seems like it'd be strange to use these new metals to make items... it'd add a lot more recipes for BS if they were. G10 is almost here, though this skill, per the Patches page, seems to be set to come here in G10S2... but who knows exactly how Nexon is going to implement this. But I'm in anticipation of it, since it looks interesting. --Iyasenu 03:48, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Example Video

Found a video that could possibly be Metal Conversion (called Metal Conversion in the video) [1]

Seems like this skill is... "skill-based" like cooking or finishing off tailoring or BS items.

Though i'm not sure if hitting all the right areas will always make you succeed, since the person in the vid only did it once.

Also I have no idea why she waited to long. But she was turning a copper fragment into a silver fragment (can't tell how many she used or gained)

Only one way to know for sure. At least G10S2 is getting closer! --Iyasenu 09:02, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, thats pretty much it, just have to time it right, you can spend all the time you want, unlike BS, Tailoring, etc.--Dtdsora- no page as of yet- u can make it urself 00:28, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Outcomes

Found out a few things while reading the notes people posted here...

The outcome won't always be a success, even if you hit all the areas correctly. So, in a way, it's a bit similar to the in-progress parts of Tailoring and Blacksmith ("Hit or Miss", basically).

It seems to be always five per try, so 5 Unknown Ore Fragments for 1 Iron Ore/Iron Ore Fragment/Iron Ingot, 5 Iron Ore/Iron Ore Fragment/Iron Ingot for 1 Copper Ore/Copper Ore Fragment/Copper Ingot respectively, etc... (Only on Rank B, so I can't say for sure).

I've done this a few times now since I'm working on it, but it seems that it's not just Diamonds that can be obtained. Possibly all the Jewels in general that can be obtained from Metallurgy. So far, I've gotten a Topaz and a Ruby in the process even though they are a bit on the small side (About 2 cm). Perhaps the size of the jewels will also increase as ranks increase?

Tin, Zinc, and Nickel are also slim chances, but they seem to increase in frequency as the rank goes up. On a related note, anyone know about what these by-products are used for? --Lt. Jessie 14:08, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

From what I understand about the chart on the page, at rank 9, it only needs 4 ingredients per try. At rank 5 it decreases further to 3 per try, and at rank 1 it becomes a measly 2 per try. As for what the 3 new types of metal are used for... I'm not sure either. I've asked a few people including someone who already had the master title. No one had any ideas. Blargel 04:33, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Here's my take on how the game is played/why it matters. A "successful" play is defined as 4 hits good hits. A "failed" play is defined as 1 or more misses. A "failure" has 0 (or at best very very low) odds of giving a byproduct (tin, zinc, nickel, gems, diamonds). A "successful" play has a likelihood as defined by how successful you were. There is a "purity" rating on each play, calculated based on some aspects of how you do (I have not yet determined which ones, but certain Japanese Mabinogi players have tools which will tell you how "pure" you are). Your "purity" is a # from 0 to 49, and I think the lower said number, the better off you are (at higher ranks, I was getting in the 20-30s, at rank 1, I usually get 8-12). I assume better purity increases likelihood of a byproduct. JP wiki states that the minigame ONLY affects byproducts, not success rate of the main conversion. JP Wiki says (translated with google translate) "Although the results of mini-products to affect the out, and more laws is not known". Here's some other stuff from JP Wiki and my best attempt at reading the translation

Rank F: F-products in jewelry can rank all kinds. ダイア 1.00cm、その他宝石2cm未満 Dire 1.00cm, jewelry and other than 2cm At rank F, you can produce all gems. Diamonds up to 1CM, Others up to 2CM.

Rank D: The maximum size of less than 3cm jewelry. Biggest gems you can produce are 3CM.

Rank 9: The maximum size will be less than 4cm gemstones. Biggest gems you can produce are 4CM.

Rank 5: The maximum size of less than 5cm jewelry. ダイアはこのランクで3cm未満になる。 This dialog is ranked less than 3cm. Biggest gems you can produce are 5CM. Diamonds up to 3CM? That last part I wouldn't know. If a native japanese speaker could check it out, that would be great.

Rank 1: No good quote from JP wiki. The biggest gem I have gotten so far has been just under 7CM. Some of the comments on the wiki suggest that 7CM might be the cap for regular gems from metal conversion-ing at rank 1. I have made about 2000 iron ingots, so I have a rather large number of trials. As for diamonds, I have not gotten anything over 5, but I have only gotten ~10 diamonds total, so I'm not yet ready to make any conclusions.

As for the material it takes, the chart is correct. At ranks F-A, it takes 5 to make 1, then 4, then 3, then 2.

Tin, zinc, and nickel have no use as of yet (JP Wiki). For those of you who care, here's the wiki put through google translate. http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://mabinogi.wikiwiki.jp/&ei=qH8XTOLWHMegnwfmyJ2tCg&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CBYQ7gEwAA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dmabinogi%2Bjp%2Bwiki%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3D98B%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official --Lostmage 12:57, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Question... Why are we basing this off the JP Wiki...? Shouldn't we also be looking at the other overseas wikis (If available) and compare from there? And some of these translations are really jumbled. Can't really make heads or tails of some of these things that are being translated either. I'm gonna see if I can get some help from the TW and CN servers and see what they have to say. --Lt. Jessie 15:59, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

obtaining the skill

i know that my main obtained a quest to get the skill from Heledd when Tara first came out... but i'm wanting my elf to have the skill since she's my designated blacksmith and ect. (dont want to deal with that skill till much much latter...) my elf never loged in during that time... so how exactly do you obtain it? talking to her about skills only tells you that she can do metal conversion...--chrissy of hailfire 06:54, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

I have the same problem. Maybe you need a skill to be a certain rank or above--Dtdsora- no page as of yet- u can make it urself 21:43, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
Okay, it says you must complete"The Corrupt Alchemist" quest in order to get the skill, and you gain the quest after completing "The Temple Knights" Quest--Dtdsora- no page as of yet- u can make it urself 22:15, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
Had my elf complete till temple knights... but i'm still not getting the quest after talking to Heledd i even waited till she got the secret mission quest and still nothing... is it truly after temple knights or is it after another quest?--chrissy of hailfire 16:01, 27 August 2010 (UTC)NVM took 2-3 days to get the quest--chrissy of hailfire 16:44, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Tin, Zinc and Nickel

If obtaining tin comes when you do stuff to make Iron, does obtaining Zinc come from Iron -> copper or copper -> Silver? Same with Nickel (silver -> Gold?) DesertHunt 18:18, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

I got zinc from converting unknown ores into iron, so it must be random, regardless of what is being converted. -Dias 00:07, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Mini Game Purpose?

So what is the point of doing it? I don't see anything on the page that mentions the benefit of playing with the mini-game.

Infodude575 (talk)17:16, 4 September 2015

Skill description:

And, if you are lucky, you will also be able to create precious gems such as diamonds or new metals never seen before in Erinn.

Mini-game section:

The range of the green sections will narrow at rank 9 and rank 5, however the potential rewards are increased.

The outcome of the minigame merely affects the item produced and not the success rate itself.

I see. However, I find it a rather vague explanation, as there is no explicit mention of the mini game's purpose.

Also is it necessary to have all four markers spot on or will one just suffice?

Infodude575 (talk)18:07, 4 September 2015

I'm pretty all it does is affect whether you get the extra mats such as tin or gems. From my experience you have to get all 4 green spots in order to have a chance of an extra mat.

Blargel (talk)19:39, 5 September 2015

Roughly how much extra ores/gems do you get from it?

Infodude575 (talk)00:56, 6 September 2015

As far as I can tell, the chance of getting special ores or gems is 0% unless you get all four green sections. However, I almost always got all four green sections and really didn't pay attention to my inventory to see when they bonus results were given to me. As such, I'm not very confident on my answer.

Non-Implemented Metal Conversion Part-Time Jobs?

Currently having rank B Metal Conversion, I notice that there are options to perform tin/zinc/copper ore fragment conversions, each requiring their own PTJ-exclusive materials. Does anyone allow you to perform Metal Conversion for them? Eabha's page indicates Metal Conversion is never asked by him.

Sylfaen (talk)13:21, 29 January 2014

It uses mana/stamina

I'm at r2 and I noticed it uses roughly 1 mana and 2 stamina. That's it.

Gaby5011 (talk)08:11, 14 May 2013

Can it go the other way?

Can you use metal conversion to say, turn gold into a bunch of unknown ore fragments?

Whitnney (talk)07:29, 11 March 2013

Nope, you can turn Ingots into gragments using Fragmentation, though.

LittlesnowEU (talk)08:22, 11 March 2013

It doesn't, but there should be a way to do so through Fragmentation. Would be awesome.

Kave Johnson (talk)23:40, 12 March 2013

Tin, Zinc, and Nickel

These are now selectable products rather than possible byproducts. Success rates are unknown to me since everything is 99% for me. At rank 1, although normal ores take 2 ores to convert, converting to the special ores takes 3 ores per try.

  • 3 Copper Ores -> 1 Tin Ore
  • 3 Silver Ores -> 1 Zinc Ore
  • 3 Gold Ores -> 1 Nickel Ore

It appears that possible byproducts are solely gems now, but I haven't done much conversion to test this yet.

Blargel (talk)21:33, 30 October 2012

I changed the description section but my understanding of the skill may be wrong as I've never used it and based it on this talk page, so please let me know if it's wrong.

Angevon (Talk)07:25, 31 October 2012

Incorrect.

I did Metal Conversion multiple times (using Unknown Ore Fragments) after the update and got Tin and Zinc like normal. Had already edited the page, but since there is a discussion... yeah.

Kave Johnson (talk)07:05, 5 November 2012

Looks correct to me. I added what kind of ore is needed for the special ores as well just to be complete, but I need to check whether only ore fragments work or if regular ore works as well. I also added some fields to the summary table as well that need to be filled in by other lower rank people or people who can look at the data in the actual files.

Blargel (talk)10:14, 31 October 2012

There is also a new requirement for Rank 2 metal conversion with enough exp to avoid having to make diamonds to get to rank 1.

Problem is its not translated.

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk23/Kendoza/Translationplease.png

Its the very bottom one for 0.05 for 200 training. Everything else is the same.

Kendoza (talk)08:43, 4 November 2012

My best guess is to make Copper Ingots, just based off what the rest of the requirements look like. I don't actually know Korean though.

동 means copper according to google translate though, and the rest of the "Successfully convert x ingot" requirements are the same symbols.

Blargel (talk)05:10, 5 November 2012

Sadly I've tried a lot of things. None of which work. It does translate to Successfully Convert Copper Ingots which means Iron Ingots -> Copper Ingots but the skill is glitched so the requirement never gets fulfilled.

Just gonna have to wait for them to fix it. ;~;

Kendoza (talk)14:42, 13 November 2012

Well, looks like the perfect time for me to begin my Metal Conversion, then. Rank Novice tin has a 19% chance (I think. I didn't pay much attention to my Rank Novice %'s, but I -think- I had 21%, and my passives increase success of conversion by 2%), and Rank F is 45% chance. Both need a stack of 5. I'd edit the page myself, but I am completely lost when it comes to editing horizontal tables and having the cells the right size... Sorry.

VocalMagic (talk)11:10, 16 November 2012

Added. I assumed that since you didn't report Zinc or Nickel that they aren't available at those ranks. Please double check that I put the values in the right place.

Blargel (talk)18:36, 16 November 2012

Or... okay then. Can you figure out the required stack for special ore too? It's different than the normal metals.

Blargel (talk)18:45, 16 November 2012

Done.

I think we should split the table into a "Metal Conversion List" table... similar to other production, because that "summary" is getting quite large.
