Talk:Generation 8: Dragon
For everyone?
Will G8 be for everyone or just for humans? Would like it if someone knew lol. --Fibbler 19:21, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure it will, seeing as G7 is available to elves, giants, and humans--Dtdsora AKA Viri The White Knight-in-training 17:24, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not so sure about that. It mentions talking to Castanea, something that shouldn't be possible as a giant. --Jerl 07:52, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- It doesnt matter, giants must sneak up and talk to her. -- Ember Incubus
- It is really easy to get caught at Castanea's spot. I got shot while I was talking to her and died. Definitely recommend flying mounts. --Phunkie 05:59, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

About the Boar Taming Part
I'm confused about this part. When it states "Taming Wild Animals Rank 9, Control of Darkness Rank F, Tikka Wood Taming Cane + Bait Can" does it mean "Taming Wild Animals r9 AND Control of Darkness rF" or "Taming Wild Animals r9 OR Control of Darkness rF"?
("And" as in Taming Wild Animals r9 with your Control of Darkness at rF to clarify.)
Sorry if this is a stupid question. Just seems unclear to me. D: --Revi 02:23, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- It means use rank 9 Taming skilwith tikka cane and bait can or control of darkness F with tikka cane and bait can. -- կրակEmber Incubus (խոսելTalk | օգնությունContributes)
- I'm pretty sure it means use Taming Wild Animals skill while having CoD at the listed rank, since CoD helps Taming's success rate. ---Angevon 02:47, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- This sure adds to the confusion. xD -Revi 03:45, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- Angevon's answer is the correct one, confirmed by people who have actually done G8. It'd be appreciated it people would stop making wild claims like "use control of darkness with tikka cane and bait". You can't use them together and in fact using CoD doesn't count for this part of the quest, again confirmed by someone who's done G8.--Mystickskye 05:17, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

How many boars do you have to tame anyway? Just 1?--Tricky B Bomb (Talk) 00:23, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- Just one. By the way guys, my guild leader supposedly did it at Rank C with 800+ bait. I did it at Rank 9 with 49 bait (Tikka + Courcle Bait). Proof: here. "Rank 6" is just a horrible overestimation. As you can see, I'm a Paladin, not a Dark Knight; I have Rank 9, and I didn't just rank Taming (so I didn't do it at A). I'm sure most people know it's possible at any rank by now though; just very unlikely at lower. Who knows how many it really takes at 9; maybe I just got lucky. Again: proof. -Rusty 20:23, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
I have a better question: does anyone have an idea of the minimum rank with a Courcle Taming Cane (the store-bought one, duh) and Courcle Taming Bait? Assuming CoD RF.Novaix 22:58, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- Do we know how much more success % a Tikka adds compared to Courcle? Probably not; but at most, it can't be more than 10% increased chance; so I'd say Rank 9 with 50~100 bait. Just a guess of course; since Tikka+Courcle Bait takes R9 with about 50 baits for most people. If not that, maybe like, R8 with 50~75 bait? Hard to make a good estimate; if only we had some sort of % successes and stuff. ._. -Rusty 20:12, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, 100+ Courcle Baits with a Tikka Cane at r9 Taming didn't work. Even at r6 it took me 55 Courcle Baits. I might just be unlucky but it's hard to be that unlucky.--Mystickskye 20:47, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
- I think it really is just luck though. I've r6 taming and tamed it in about 3 tries. A friend of mine at r9 taming used stacks and stacks of bait without taming it and when I went to stalk her, she tamed it on the first bait. It also seems impossible to estimate success rates, considering that we have no idea about general taming rates with Animal Taming anyway. I also don't think that the boar is tameable at "any rate" like Rusty said, there definitely has to be a minimum somewhere. If you're taming at a 0.1% success rate, it's effectively 0, so it's probably just better to rank it up. >_> Beepuke 05:38, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

- Just noting that I tried taming using 400+ baits at r9 with an Ancient Taming Cane. No luck. I got a tikka cane and got the boar in four tries. I'm a Pally, too. --Haven923
- I'm a Paladin with r9 Taming, Tikka Wood Taming Cane, and Courcle Taming bait. Took me 11 tries.--Azurebalmung 05:18, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
Looks like both TW and JP wikis are now confirming (at least after g10) that one can tame the boar with just rC taming and tikka rod with nothing else. Just need to be patient. The TW reference has changed, our current rank requirements have no basis anymore. We should get the same thing as we import some of our data from latest kr client. Can anyone do us a big favor and test rC + tikka rod for 2000+ baits? Looks like they are saying CoD has no effect either...--Hengsheng120·TALKCONTRIBS 04:53, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
I tested rC+tikka but.. unfortunately I have rE CoD, and got it in 7 tries; so would rF have the same effect but at a sorta lower % rate? SoraHikari 03:37, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

Nexon Strategy Guide
Nexon has a strategy guide available, hidden on their site. I probably should've mentioned this before so people could've edited the info in, but it honestly slipped my mind. Sorry.
Prologue Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7
Part 4 has the Volcano Boar section, but unfortunately it doesn't mention any specific rank, so that's not much help either. No idea how much help it'll be overall, but it's there for anyone who wants to transfer some information over. --Duet 09:22, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
Random Facts for G8
About the Unicorn in Par. According to the Japanese Wiki, there are numerous things that should/should not be mentioned / are not worth mentioning, but still good to know.
- You may ride the Unicorn once you tame it. Giants are an exception. Taunes is an exception to the exception.
- Even if you score a Huge Lucky Finish on the Unicorn, it won't drop any gold.
- It is possible to create a statue of the unicorn by using a pet Mimic.
- Once tamed, you get a STR, DEX, and INT bonus of +15 each.
- It is possible to find a Snow Crystal at the end of the dungeon, if you kill the Unicorn. The Snow Crystal is used laster on in the Mainstream Quest.
- There may be a bug when you talk to Atrata to complete the quest in which the "Finish Conversation" button is unavailable to click. This can be fixed by changing to Full Screen or Windowed Mode.
- It is possible to tame the Unicorn with Practise or Rank F Taming. However you'll need higher ranks to finish the Mainstream so it doesn't really matter.
- Number 5; I got a Snow Crystal without killing the Unicorn (I tamed it, like I was supposed to). -Rusty 07:25, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
About the continuous stream of taming animals thing. The data on the Japanese Wiki is different from the data on this wiki right now (Most probably derived from Korean Wiki) so I'm not sure which is correct. I'll put it in table format to make it more appealing to the eye. After the patch, if anyone could be kind enough to test this out even further.

Effectiveness of Baits
I know the wiki page contain using normal courcle bait, but I was able to tame the boar on my 3rd try with Rank A taming, Tikka Training Cane, and Tupai Training Bait. No Control of Darkness either. Can anyone else confirm this other than me? ~ Miyuna
- Well I've been using the Tikka cane, and Courcle bait, with rank E Control of Darkness, dragging rank D Taming. I'll see if I can tame it with Tupai bait. If I can, than that means Tupai bait drastically increases the chances of taming, since I failed a good 1000 or so courcle.--Tricky B Bomb (Talk) 01:00, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

nvm it does count. I just tested. ~ Hikarixz
- I'm not sure, but I think you don't need the full star. When I did it I noticed that I got credit with only 1/3 a star. Needs to be checked for validity. --Haven923

1%
is there even a 1 percent chance that you can tame a Volcano Horned Wild Boar in f rank
- If there is a chance(I'm 95% sure there is), it's less than 1%, it's been tried by plenty of people. it took me a little over 200 tries at rank A Taming, C CoD & a Tikka cane, to tame it with animal taming.(Too bad using CoD doesn't count, I got it on the first try with rank f CoD) --Sozen Cratos Focker 08:11, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

NPCs
Where it shows the NPCs involved, shouldn't Crumena and Ruairi be listed? Bidica 21:14, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- Cromm should be listed as well. Maybe they went by "NPCs You Talk To." However, all of the ones you mentioned, as well as Cromm are involved. We should edit that. --Phunkie 08:34, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
- Added Cromm, Crumena, Ruairi and Adniel to the NPC list. --Phunkie 08:31, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
Bait + Boar taming combinations
I removed the bait and some of the combinations.
I stated in the Instructions of that part of the quest that Rank 9 was the general minimum, so I guided myself by that. I removed Rank 6 Taming Animals and etc, since if Rank 9 works, of course Rank 6 will work even better.
As for the bait, I removed it because it is variable for each person. Took me like 20-30 tries to tame my Boar at Rank 9 Taming with Courcle Baits. Some people it took them 100 tries.
However, thank you. :) I just didn't want that part of the guide to look too cluttered with stuff. It's easy to have the minimum requirements instead of all the possible ones. --Phunkie 18:42, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Missing quests
"Legatus' Advice" isn't listed. Instead, it is combined into "Red Dragon Encounter."
We should add it.--Phunkie 22:48, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Confused..
In the Irinid's Curse quest it says that Using Control of Darkness does not count towards the quest, but under the combinations on how to tame the boar, it says Rank D Control of Darkness, Rank 6 Control of Darkness, ETC. Can someone explain? D: --Rainney
- (I think) it means if you are a Dark Knight and you have Rank X Control of Darkness. --Jαy 02:00, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, that's probably it. >_< Thanks! :3 --Rainney 02:25, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
I'm confused too. If your Elf/Human-alligned, then how are you supposed to do the 1st part? Krug & Taunes are both Giants in Vales, and we will get killed if we step in. ~ Darkblade132
- those 2 giants will talk to you instead of just giving the "called guards" message. the extra guard that attacks only you will show up after you click end conversation. so as long as you don't get noticed, you won't be attacked till after you finish.--Sozen Cratos Focker 07:48, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- Darkblade, it says "For Giants, Giant-supporting Humans, and neutral Humans only." You don't need to do that part. --Phunkie 14:58, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Should we include this part?
Under the Legatus' Advice part should we include that when you go over to SouthEast of Raspa Volcano with an Snow Crystal and get the cutscene it disappears? SoraHikari 23:01, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- yes--Sozen Cratos Focker 03:29, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Red Wings?
I think this may have come with the G12 update, but Effie gives you Red Wings to Calida and Quilla for the first quest, should this be included? -RedHound 22:43, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
- Go, but you have to confirm it first. Infodude575 19:49, 1 December 2010 (PST)
- Confirmed, and added. Though, does anyone know how to create a redirect page? Only 'cause I'm a grammar nazi and had to say "Red Wings". AKAAkira 01:00, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
