Talk:Dungeon Room Types

From Mabinogi World Wiki

I think that decat has chnaged it already, probally people thought it was to hard to do have to think about it every 10 seconds, I believe it is no 1 minute, I have no idea how long it has been this, but I realized this yesterday, and with G10 update I thought I'd just edit around the wiki. juanmelk 13:55 (UTC)

i'm having allot of computer problems right now, this is my first time trying to edit the wiki from my schools computers. i'll finish this page later. i'm mostly just adding this page so i have somewhere to put the information on how orb rooms work to help the people still on baol infil.Sozen Cratos Focker 17:36, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

(This page is still under construction. I'll add the rest of the content myself later, but if someone wants to edit it for spelling or something go ahead. Sozen Cratos Focker 17:32, 10 March 2009 (UTC))

uh, whoever put that "under investigation" tag there, that's unnecessary. 3 of my friends and i have tested this very thoroughly for the past few months before i added it here, it does work. devcat might make changes to it in the future, but for now it works. and rearranging the page was... An admin put it up. He probably doesn't agree with something so he's investigating it maybe. -★Fifty★ 04:06, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
Nevermind. I just noticed you put a lot of new information up right now. -★Fifty★ 04:18, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
ya the only thing that was here when he put it up there was the part about orb rooms, the part about how they work is hard for most people to belive when they first find out about it. when my frends and i first heard someone talk about it in baol loby, we spent almost half an hour calling the person a liar and stuff before going in to try it.
speaking of the person i heard it from, should i credit them here? Sozen Cratos Focker 19:07, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
I've been trying this method, off and on, for sometime now and it appears to work, based on my experiences with adjacent rooms in rabbie. I was attempting it today over a long period of time in baol infil because my extremely laggy situation made all attacks impossible (the kind that makes it difficult to walk through a door, because you keep rubberbanding). Due to the laggy situaion (and the long hallways) it was getting difficult to keep a running count in my head, so I opened up my system clock. The 10 sec switch appears to be consistent, and seems to switch on 5s, 15s, 25s, 35s, 45s, and 55s, with a little leeway because I'm not sure the EXACT second that mabi server time is on.
I'm NOT sure what exactly happens if you hit a switch wrong...does it rewrite the clock into rotations of three? does it maintain the same pattern, but with a duplicate slot? does the timer stop once you hit the first switch?
What my testings does show me is that if I pick a switch wrong, and it doesn't open the door, that the previous one in counterclockwise rotation usually will, whereas hitting the next in rotation one will spawn hellhounds. XD More data to be gathered next sunday. -- Ladywinter 08:21, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Well, of course its hard to keep track of something like that completely in your head, especially since you need to be exact with timing over a long period of time. when my friends and I were testing it, we used the Mabi clock, it changes at an interval that's also about 10 seconds, but that was confusing cause its on a cycle based on 6 and the orbs are 4, so I made a timer for it in visual basic, but its sloppy and hard to read.
About "the exact second the Mabi server is on", I'm not entirely sure this is server side. One time, my friend and I went into separate Ciar beginners to test this, we each found an orb room and waited for the other to find an orb room, and hit the same switch at the same time in the different dungeons, and repeated that 3 times. The first time, I opened the door, and he didn't, the second time hi did and I didn't, the third time neither of us did. 2 fails is enough to assume that we weren't on the same timer, so that means either every occurrence of every dungeon has its own timer, or its client side, meaning every player will have his own timer for it. I can check that later by having someone else hit orbs according to my timer in the same dungeon, to bad Baol Infil is solo.
I'm always testing this out more whenever I have an opportunity, but I don't get as many anymore cause I finished g3 on my main and my other human barely started g1. Testing is easier now though, because someone told me were to get an orb timer that's easier to use than the one I made, to bad it was 3 weeks after I finished g3 XD
About what happens when you hit the wrong orb, I know that it definitely does not affect the other rooms, but I haven't tested how the orbs in that 1 room are handled yet. stuff like that, and when exactly the timer starts(likely possibilities: when the pass is dropped, when you get to the first floor, when you hit the first orb of the first lotto room of the dungeon), weather the timer is separate for every player, and just how similar iria's roulette rooms are to orb rooms, I'll add as soon as I find it out.
PS: if annybody else has used this, please leave a message here so the admin that put up the "investigation" tag can be satisfied.

I would be greatly interested in this orb timer! From my initial testing, the door-open switch, *appears* to be set once the first switch is opened, but I've had a couple test cases that this wasn't the result so I wonder if it was because of the timing of the way I hit the switch...anyhoo, more testing to be done.
Oh! That's a good point you made that it might just be due to the system timer of your machine, since the dungeons are created anew each run. However! what happens in dungeons with multiple ppl? Is it based on the leader's machine? -- Ladywinter 20:55, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
um, i dont remember were exactly the orb timer is from, but il ask my frend if he still remembers it. it was some modding site or something Sozen Cratos Focker 19:18, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Could i get some help from a couple of dungeon crawlers? i'm testing out a theory that hitting the orb directly left from the door at an odd hour and a half will open the door (ex. hitting the orb at 5:30 will work while 6:30 results in spawning critters)--Magmahunter 19:32, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

if annyone is sceptic about the scenareo mentioned in the reward room section, it has actualy happened to me in peaca...Sozen Cratos Focker 20:19, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Content moved to dungeon overview

There was a lot of good information on this page, but most of the content really didn't fit the page title of "Dungeon Room Types". So I've moved a lot of that information to a new page called Dungeon Overview, and reduced this page so that it now does only deal with Dungeon room Types. I've also added more data about the weirder Iria room types, mostly taken from the individual pages for Maiz, Karu and Longa dungeons. --Librarian (talk) 01:20, 23 October 2021 (PDT)

IMO I don't think "Types" needs to be present in the page name. It sounds awfully weird; we don't have "Dungeon Types", "Dungeon Altar Types", etc.

I vote that the page be renamed to "Dungeon Rooms".

Technically, the information here is about types of dungeon rooms; information about specific rooms is in the spawn details on each dungeon page.

Actually, now that I think about it, "Layout" sounds better than "Room Types", since corridors are not rooms.
