Fossil Restoration

Basic Information

Fossils may be obtained from mining in the Sulfur Pits or Flint Rocks in Zardine. They also drop from some monsters. They must be restored before they are of any value. There are two pits, a large one and a small one, separated by a mountain ridge. They are both directly to the east of the word "Raspa Volcano" on the minimap. Right-click the fossil and choose "Use" to start the minigame. You have one minute to clean up the fossil. Your cursor becomes a sort of eraser. Clicking on the minigame screen will erase some dirt. You must erase as much dirt as you can. Avoid touching the fossil with the eraser! You'll damage it; it'll show up as red. Turn in the fossil to Belita to get your reward. You'll always get some exp and exploration exp. The more clean/less damaged (red parts on Fossil when cleaning then touching it with the cursor) and more complex it is, the better your chances of receiving a Lava Cat Robe. Warning: Restored Fossils are not tradeable and cannot be stored on pets. This does not apply to un-restored fossils. This does not apply to Shooting Star Fragments. However restored fossils can be placed into another character's bank tab, and therefore can be transferred to another character on the same account.

Restoring Tips

• It's better to have less dirt cleaned than more damaged parts (red).
• Start with the middle sized eraser and clean close to the fossil.
• Next use the large sized eraser to clean away the edges.
• If you have time, use the small eraser to do detail work.
• There are several cleaning methods:
  • Clicking on a spot near the fossil and drawing the brush outwards.
  • Repeated clicking around the fossil instead of dragging the brush.
  • Dragging the brush only horizontally (improves precision depending on the mouse.)
  • Start with the largest brush, and quickly brush away the spacious areas around the fossil. Then, use the medium brush to work closer to the fossil.
• It is also possibly helpful to lower sensitivity on your mouse and/or use a mouse pad in order to be able to help out traction once using the cleaning tools.
  • You do this through your computer's system options. In Mouse Options, change the speed of the mouse, or play around with the other settings should your mouse have them, to see what might give you finer control.
• Another way of getting a more precise result is to use a drawing tablet.
  • It allows much more precision than a mouse and the cheapest models are very affordable, however if you do not wish to use or purchase one, please refer to the other tips on this page.
• If you get attacked while restoring a fossil, the fossil is lost.
• If you press "esc" key, the fossil is lost.
• If you accidentally mess up, type /logout or change channels to try again.
• If your hand is too shaky, turn your mouse sensitivity down. This will make your cursor move much smoother. On a window's computer this setting can be found in the control panel when it is set to icon view
• You'll be able to notice a change in the Fossil as you get further into cleaning it. The cleaner you get it, the fossil will start fading, and then becomes more defined.
  • Note: This change of appearance is not affected by red marks. It's solely affected by erasing dirt, so any red marks left will not cause the fading process to cease. (To clarify: No matter how faded/defined the fossil gets, if there are red spots, it'll decrease the restoration quality result.)

• Note: All fossils, with the exception of the Shooting Star Fragment and Quartz Plate, can be found in both the small and large Sulfur Pits.

Rewards

• Upon completing the restoration of a fossil you will get graded on the quality of your work. The higher the quality, the better the reward. The rewards are money, exploration EXP, and the possibility of receiving a Lava Cat Robe. The chances of obtaining a Lava Cat Robe increase based on the resulting quality of the restored fossil.
• If a player delicately restores a fossil for the first time(around 99% restored), the player will receive the 'the Ambidextrous' title.
