Description
Fir Bolg (also written as Tir Bolg , Fir Bholg, and Firbolg) were one of the original inhabitants of Uladh along with the Partholons and the Tuatha de Dananns.
Their only mention was in the book The Goddess Who Turned into Stone. During the First War of Mag Tuireadh, the Fir Bolg were used by the Fomorians to battle the Tuatha de Danann. Nuadha, a warrior who aided the Tuatha de Danann, defeated the Tir Bolg. However, he lost an arm prior to his battle with Sreng, a Fir Bolg warrior.
Currently, there are no records of Fir Bolgs in present day.
Trivia
- In the Irish Mythology, Fir Bolgs had inhabited Ireland immediately before the arrival of the Tuatha Dé Danann. When the Tuatha Dé Danann came, the Fir Bolgs burned down their ships and negotiated battle instead of ceding half of Ireland, thus starting the First War of Mag Tuireadh. After Nuadha's arm was cut off by Sreng, the Tuatha Dé Danann called truce and gave their oppositions three choices: leave Ireland, share the land, or continue the battle, the last choice being picked. Sreng then challenges Nuadha to single combat, who accepts on the condition that Sreng fights using only one arm, but he refuses. The Tuatha Dé Danann then offer one of the four provinces of Ireland. Sreng makes his choice, and the two sides make peace.
