And the two mortals becoming the two gods was not really their origin. Morrighan and Cichol sealed themselves (if I remember correctly); Tieve only becomes Morrighan because the Goddess sealed herself within her. In Cichol's case, the one who defeats the the three Guardians of Time becomes him.
It was never said they turned against each other either. In the end, Cichol says he will go eradicate Elchulus from existence, and Morrighan calls him a "pitiful man."
