Maintenance?
Nexon said that they are only bringing Mabi down for Maintenance because of the Hackers, does anyone know if they will be fixing (hopefully) the Friends List? Well, not just the friends list, the entire Character Login Server.
Nothing was wrong with the Login Server, or else no one would have been able to login. The Chat Server was down ( or whatever you wish to call it. ) Chances are yes, hopefully.
If it was just the chat server what explains mine and one other confirmed person's character data not saving upon logging off last night, and several confirmations of skill sets not saving, and what I've experienced of my volume not remembering where it was when I logged back in, causing me to have to turn BGM and instruments back down to 0 every time I log in.
Wait, now that I think about it, that doesn't sound like the login server to me.
Wait, I read on down in the list, I think what I'm mistaking for logging out issues is actually the hackers, I only lost my Dustin Silver Knight Sword, thankfully, but the other person lost almost her entire Alice's Set.
they usually work on the biggest problems first so they might not fix the friends list right now like they did with the lockouts
it possibly will be down for a week or more till they r able to fix the hackings just hope they dont roll back the severs.
Expect it to be down for a week. They are working on the hacker problem and everything associated with that. Also, I was informed that the friends list issues are going to be the last thing fixed. As of right now, that is not the priority.
Yeah, most people fail to grasp the severity of what happened. Nexon can't just "bandaid" this one, or they'd lose 90% of players. They must fix this, and fix it right.
Those hackers just ripped a huge hole in the game. They were using GM functions, accessing character data, and a whole host of other things that are very serious. Nexon basically lost control of the game, lost it to some idiot script kiddies.
Nexon is/will be shaken to their core. They've just been embarrassed in a blatently obvious way, their security proven laughably inadequit. All pervious exploits (ex duping) were fairly unnoticable, as they only affected one player and it was fairly technical to understand. This one, however, well you've seen how people reacted.
This is major. It goes beyond a personal advantage. Whoever's responsible did this purely to hurt players and the game. They were obvious about what they were doing. They also knew that they can't enjoy the fruits of their labor. They'll be banned/rolled back when mabi comes up. They did this just to make a statement to Nexon and the players, that, in effect, says "You're not in control, we are."
Nexon did the right thing by pulling the plug on the servers. If the hackers got this far, who knows what else they could do/have done? This is all what Nexon must investigate and fix.
Honestly, I'll be very surprised if its less than a week.
The hackers almost took down an entire division of the GMs. That's how bad it was. From what I can tell they are trying to see if they can fix individual hacks to save the others from rollback but don't be too hopeful. The previously unkown GM island is what I found disturbing. It's a GM-only place (hence if a normal account where to log out while located there or talk to an NPC serious game problems occured) and had security measures so that normal players could not get there. I'm glad I didn't get to see the water-surrounded alternate reality of dunbarton :/
Game appears to be online. I suspect they just banned the hackers and changed some server passwords. They'd better look at this more carefully.
I can confirm they're trying to solve individual hacks, my sister's been hacked a couple times, and tickets that were unanswered for over a year were suddenly all answered in the server downtime.
Also, servers are now up, according to the Mabinogi site.
