I forgot which was which, but it was confirmed at the first release of these boxes that whether you get boots or the suit is dependent on your gender.
Yes it is dependent on the gender of the opener. I own 6 flame mares now o-o;; 3 black and 3 of the limited sales one, one of each color.
Not whether you get boots or suit, but whether the item you get is male or female. The type of item received is still random, but the gender is fixed on the character.
