magic critical

does critical hit apply to magic? and how so

Uh...? It applies the same way to everything. The only difference for magic is that critical chance isn't boosted by weapon %, only stats and enchants.--Qaccy 15:28, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Critical Hit and Damage

Shouldn't we mention that Critical Hit actually modifies your max damage and adds that to your raw?--Mystickskye 01:06, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

I'll add it. No reason not to, right? --!!!

Two-handed buff

With the new buff to two-handed weapons (and blunts/axes) shouldn't we add the new bonuses, if anyone knows them?Novaix 04:51, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Critical Hit doesn't get any bonuses with a two-handed weapon. --Berkt 07:15, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
Nexon said critical was improved in the new two-handed patch.Novaix 03:11, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
+5% critical chance when using Smash with 2h weapons. --Mabiwar 03:58, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
So does that mean +5% raw critical chance, or +5% critical chance post protection subtraction (still capped at 30%)? Beepuke 04:27, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
Shouldn't this be noted elsewhere as well?--Marthian 01:47, 1 January 2011 (PST)

Missing 10%?

can someone explain how when i equip a weapon with say, 30% crit, my ratio only rises by 20%? are my bare hands considered weapons with 10% base crit or something? Because equiping magic powder with 0% crit makes my ratio go DOWN by 10%. is something wrong here? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Purity464 (talkcontribs) . You need at least 10 luck to have the same crit as your weapon. If you have 0 luck, for example, it is -10% critical hit. If you have a weapon with 30% crit and 0 luck it will be 20% critical.
Yes, bare hands are like a weapon with it's own stats, so being barehanded doesn't show you your base stats, what you see with a 0 stat weapon like magic powder equipped are your base stats.--Sozen Cratos Focker 23:30, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

ah ok thanks for clearing all that up. Purity464 22:10, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Does critical hit add x% from your base damage or from your final damage when using a skill?

Does critical hit add x% from your base damage or from your final damage when using a skill?

base damage = 100, smash = 200% damage, crit = +100% damage.
400 = final damage = base*smash*(crit+100%)

or is it

300 = final damage = (base*smash)+((crit+100%)*base)

~kotarou3 TALKCONTRIBS 10:35, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

1: Where did the 100% come from after the "crit+"?
2: ((Base*Smash) = 200) + ((("Crit+"100%)*Base) = 200) = 400?

--κєνıи тαıĸ«) 11:32, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Oh, I guess the "crit+" is the additional damage %.
Still a problem with issue #2 though. --κєνıи тαıĸ«) 11:34, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
It's just (any damage) * (multiplier), where multiplier = (1+additior), why u gotta make it so complicated?--Hengsheng120·TALKCONTRIBS 11:51, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
So is it no.1 or no.2 ~kotarou3 TALKCONTRIBS 06:20, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
for number 2: why would you even think of that? putting base damage back into the formula again separately in another spot?
For number one: it might be wrong (I don't know at which point in the calculations the crit modifier is used) but it doesn't matter much cause in that case the result is the same--Sozen Cratos Focker 16:27, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
IIRC, it's (base+(max*critmod))*skilmod --Sephy 10:18, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
If that were true I couldn't have low rolled a critical smash at ~400 (46~149 @ dual 0~51 spike fluteds on a laghodessa r5 smash) damage in g7 and my r1 lb couldn't have criticaled ~180 damage. Its just Damage * Critical_Modifier * Skill_modifier. The order doesn't matter since its all multiplication. The damage is whatever you would have hit. Tellos 18:24, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Defense and protection DO reduce the damage of smash. Unless you can provide screenshots of what you were smashing... --Sephy 20:44, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Critical damage ignoring protection?223:21, 15 September 2013

Critical damage ignoring protection?

Does a critical hit ignore the defense and protection when calculating DAMAGE? Furthermore, do monsters have greater multipliers than players? I've noticed that golems in shadow missions hit WAY harder than they should when scoring one. Noticeably, roughly 8 to 10x normal damage.

Ex: A golem hitting 2k with a critical hit on a NORMAL attack in The Other Alchemists (Hardmode) while normally dealing 150 damage at most without one.

Akeno (talk)10:48, 14 September 2013

If Mimics crit you for 1s, then yes defense and protection is factored.

Golems are just ridiculously powerful, I think they have Rank 1 Smash and Critical.

Infodude575 (talk)10:55, 14 September 2013

The fact that the difference between crit and regular dmg is more than you'd expect is likely because of low balance. the extra dmg from a crit is based on the MAX dmg of the attack, not the rolled dmg.

Critical %

Is there any benefit to having over 230% critical?

Useless15:18, 4 June 2012

No. Technically, there is no benefit to having over even 228% critical. 228% critical will give you the max chance of landing a critical hit at 99% protection. 99% protection is the highest protection at which landing a critical hit could possibly matter, as at 100% protection, all damage dealt is negated to 1 regardless of whether you land a critical hit or not.
