Basic Information

The Alban Knights Baltane Special Unit is a unit of Alban Knights left in charge to the player. The player can interact and befriend the NPCs of Avalon Gate: Dai, Eirlys, Elsie, Kanna, Kaour, and Logan, recruiting them into the squad to be sent onto assigned missions.

The "Special Unit" tab on your character screen shows you the basic overview of your unit, allows warping to and from Avalon Gate, and also allows selection of Missions.

The "Enter Camp" button will warp you to Avalon Gate, where you will find the squires for interaction and Shuan for management of your unit. Shuan also has a help function which explains many aspects of the system. In order to use this button, enter the camp manually and complete the quest for creating your unit found in the Squires tab of your quest log.

Command Level

Your command level determines which missions you can undertake, how many squires you can have at once, and more. You gain a +1 permanent increase to Strength, Intelligence, Dexterity, Will, and Luck for every two command levels.

The maximum number of squires recruited can be further increased to 4 and then 5 by the use of 1 or 2 Squire Recruitment Scrolls respectively. It can then be further increased to 6 by use of a Squire Recruitment Scroll PLUS.

Missions

The "Missions" button brings up the "Special Unit Training Board" where you can select missions to assign to your squires. Each mission has required stats in one or more areas to complete the mission. The squire you send on the mission has a success rate determined by their stats compared to the mission requirements, with the success rate capped at 95%. Missions take an amount of time for the squire to attempt, measured in both Erinn Time and real world minutes. Current missions can be added to the Quest Tracker for tracking, and must be completed manually by the player when the square is finished. Missions can be completed remotely from the Special Unit tab of the character window.

Rewards

Possible mission rewards include seals, command experience, training points, and more. Each mission shows you the reward before you accept it.

Injuries

If a Squire fails a mission, they may become injured. While injured you cannot send them on a mission or training, increase their likability through conversation, and they will have a noticeboard in their place saying that they are currently injured.

The injured Squire will be moved to the Infirmary at the north-east of the base, and will rest there for seven real-world days unless the player treats their injuries. During this time their affection towards the player will also decrease. After successful treatment, the player chooses a social dialogue response, followed by a conversation with the injured Squire. If the Squire was successfully treated, they will return to their primary location as per usual.

Squires

The basic overview panel for a squire.

Baltane contains six squires, which are apprentice knights still in training. At the start, only Kanna and Logan can be recruited.

Stats

Each squire has their own personality and stats. The mission stats of a squire are as follows, capping at 900.

  • Squire Divine Power.png DIV: Divine Power, increases success rate on missions dealing with Apostles.
  • Squire Strength.png STR: Strength, increases success rate when handling regular monsters.
  • Squire Intelligence.png INT: Intelligence, increases success rate when dealing with research and history.
  • Squire Dexterity.png DEX: Dexterity, increases success rate of dealing with artifacts and objects.
  • Squire Will.png WILL: Will, increases mission success rate when Prophets are involved.
  • Squire Luck.png LUCK: Luck, charisma, increases success rate when dealing with other NPCs and life skills.

These stats will also have an effect on the squire's stats in Baltane Missions. For more information, see Squire Mission Stats.

Stress increases as the squire runs missions and trains. A stress level above 50% causes a drop in mission success rate, and a squire above 80% stress may not follow orders. Stress can be reduced through counseling the squire or special interactions.

A squire's likability level is displayed to the right of their portrait. It appears as a percentage, such as 50%, but if you hover your cursor over the progress bar it will display a fraction, such as 75/150, meaning the squire has accumulated 75 points of the 150 points available at that level. The number of points available varies by squire and by level, as shown in the table.

Likability can be increased by favorable interactions with the squire, detailed below. Likability goes down slightly when they train or through certain interactions with them or other squires.

A successful regular conversation raises likability by 3 points.

Once your likability with a squire reaches level 3, you have the option to attempt to recruit them into your squad if you have room.

At most levels, when likability is one point below the maximum, such as 99/100 or 199/200, the squire obtains a level uncap quest. Completing the quest progresses them to the next level. At level 5, no further progress is possible and likability caps at one point less than the maximum. Non-recruited squires cannot progress beyond level 3.

Interactions

When in Avalon Gate, you can speak to the squires to interact with them in various ways.

Conversations

Keywords to speak to the squires with.

When interacting with the squires, there's a number of basic topics to talk with them about and the squire will want to talk about one of them. You can talk to each squire about three topics in the "Interest Conversations" tab each in-game day, resetting at 6:00 AM. Any other keywords can be used, and will not use up a daily interaction.

Speaking to a squire about the topic they want to talk about raises their likability experience by 3 points, talking about a neutral topic has no effect other than using up one daily interaction, while speaking to them about a topic they currently dislike will slightly reduce their likability experience by 1 point. Using a keyword that is not under the Interest tab will not use a daily interaction. Each squire has their own leveling curve for likability, so refer to their individual information window for progress to next level.

Kanna and Logan will plainly tell you the topic they wish to talk about, Dai and Eirlys tell you the topic they don't want to talk about, and Elsie and Kaour give no hints. Shuan will tell you one of the desired conversation topics for a selected squire for one day, in exchange for Basic Baltane Seals. The number of Seals required is equal to the selected squire's likability level.

The topics each squire likes follow a set sequence of answers, which is available here. Note that sometimes the squire will interject their sequence with a unique discussion that, if answered correctly, brings up extended dialogue, and moves on to the next topic in the sequence.

When a squire's likability reaches level 3, you will receive a keyword matching that squire in the Memo tab. Using this keyword on any squire will have them share their opinion about that squire. If you end the conversation with an un-recruited squire while their likability level is at least 3, you will be prompted with the choice to recruit them. Note that you will only be able to accept if you have available space in your unit.

When a squire's likability reaches level 5 plus 90%, you will receive a Divine Medal keyword that corresponds to the squire in the Memo tab. Talking to the squire with their corresponding keyword will request them to retrieve a Divine Medal. Should you choose to accept, that squire will instantly lose 50% likability but you will gain a new squire mission for only that squire which requires 450 in all stats for the maximum success rate.

Training

Squires, in your squad, can be commanded to undergo training in order to improve their stats. In order to train, you must have Training Points which are awarded from missions, along with certain methods being limited to a likability level with the squire. The training point pool is shared, meaning points collected from one squire can be used for any other squire.

Once training starts, the squire loses 1 likability experience point. The training takes 1 day Erinn time (36 minutes real time) to complete, during which the squire cannot be interacted with. Once the time has passed, you must manually talk to the squire to complete their training.

Certain training methods can cause a decrease in another stat.

The squire also has a chance to gain extra stats on top of normal training. This rate increases toward their specialty stat and/or going out with them.

Counsel

Counseling a squire involves listening to their worries and giving them a day off. The squire will have a large reduction in stress, and take a break for one in-game day (36 minutes real time), during which they will not be available to run missions or train.

Go Out

Squires are not allowed to leave Avalon Gate freely, but as their commander you can escort them outside for a walk or a date.

  • Dating can only be done with one squire once a week, resetting every Saturday at 7:00am PST100.
  • Requires likability of 3 or more.
  • Requires stress to be less than 80.
  • Will increase the selected squire's likability by +6 to +15.
    • Squires will offer a choice to the player.
      • Picking the worst option increases likability gain by +7.
      • Picking the average option increases likability gain by +10.
      • Picking the best option increases likability gain by +13.
    • Squires enjoy certain types of dates more than others; picking the right date increases likability gain by +1.
    • Squires are excited when they get to go on any date after about a month of waiting; this increases likability gain by +1
    • Squires do not enjoy going on the same date repeatedly; this decreases likability gain by -1.
  • Will remove all of the selected squire's stress.
  • Will decrease all of the unselected squire's likability by -1 point.
  • Squires can ask to go on specific dates; picking the last agreed upon date will change the date to a special version.
    • The last agreed upon date must be from the squire you intend to go out with.
    • Special versions of dates always have the same choices, making it easier to select the best option.

Dismiss

Removes a squire from your command so you have room to take on a different one. This lowers the likability level of that particular squire by 100 points, but you may always try and recruit that squire again in the future if you choose.

  • Note: The squire will permanently remember being dismissed, even if taken back in the team. This may affect their dialogue.

Baltane Mission Outfit

During Baltane Missions you may find a Squire's Uniform Box. Each squire has a birthday tied to a real-life day (as mentioned in the item description), and only that time you may gift the squire the box as a birthday present by dragging the item from your inventory and clicking the squire. This can be done even if the squire has not been recruited.

Once you have given the box, the option to change the squire's uniform unlocks for only recruited squires. This will cause them to wear the selected outfit during a Baltane Mission.

The outfit can also be changed back to default in the same menu.
