1. Introduction
This is how the world was created.
The power that sustains the universe, Erg...long ago, before Erg was formed, Mana, which was its basic form, controlled the flow and speed of Erg. Under the power of Erg and the law of Mana, our world is made of up many different elements. We cannot see these elements with our naked eye, but only through the eyes of those who have the blessings of Aton Cimeni and the great Druid Uscias.
2. How Elements are Formed
When I say that this is world is filled with elements, you must not mistake it to mean that they simply exist around us. What I mean is that all things in this world are made up of these elements. Elements are the most fundamental answer to the question 'what is this world made up of' and 'how does it operate?'.
Ancient humans assumed that the origin of all things were either from water, air, or fire. There were great debates amongst men throughout history regarding which one it was. However, humans soon realized that all three were necessary elements, that you couldn't separate them from one another. Humans then came up with the 3 Element Theory, consisting of water, air, and fire.
3. Various Theories Regarding Elements and Elementals
However, those who were not satisfied with this theory came up with a 4 Element Theory including dirt as the missing element. Some even went a step further and added metal and wood as elements as well. As the list grew larger and more complicated, some researched to find the common element in all these "elements" and came up with Phlogiston.
The debate continued as the list continued to grow. It is only recent where chemical elements such as magic has been added as one of the elements. These new elements were Lightning, Ice, and Fire. Magic scholars labeled these elements which are related to magic as Elementals. These elements are considered as regular elements when observed in daily life; however, they actually represent attributes of matter. The fact that Elementals show a direct response to Mana makes them different from other elements listed above.
4. Elementals Attributes and Relationships
Then let's find out the unique attributes of these Elementals.
First, Ice Elemental is a ice form Elemental and is directly correlated with cold air.
Fire Elemental is an Elemental that is in the form of a flame, and is closely connected with heat.
Lastly, Lightning Elemental is in the form of lightning bolts, and it inflicts a specific type of shock.
Although Elementals are usually attributes of matter, it comes out in its purest form through magic.
These three Elementals have interesting interrelationships, which can be categorized into three relationships.
First, Fire Elemental Magic and Ice Elemental Magic are polar opposites. This is the same law that applies in the material world: fire and ice, or fire and water. Fire and Lightning Elemental Magic show no reaction, while Ice and Lightning Elemental Magic seems to show an increased effect depending on the amount of Mana and circumstance.
While the relationship between Fire and Ice Elemental seems pretty straightforward, scholars have yet to figure out the intriguing relationship between Ice Elemental and Lightning Elemental.
5. Laws That Govern Elementals
As mentioned earlier, because these three Elementals are directly linked with the power of Mana, they share a similar pattern. This becomes especially evident when you charge the Elemental multiple times.
These are the following rules that apply to each Elemental Magic.
5.1. The Law of Decreased Mana
This law applies generally to Ice Elemental Magic, where the amount of Mana used decreases with each charge, in a multiple charge.
Thus, the amount of Mana that goes into your first charge will be greater than the subsequent charge. So, on the fifth charge, which is generally known to be the max limit, it will use significantly less Mana than the first charge. This is one of the reasons why many beginner magicians start off with the Ice Elemental.
5.2. The Law of Increased Damage
This law applies mostly to Fire Elemental Magic.
With this law, the Mana used in each charge is the same. However, the power of the magic will progressively increase. Therefore, the second charge will be stronger than the first and so forth.
By the time you charge your fifth Firebolt, it will be much more powerful than the first bolt.
5.3. The Law of Decreased Damage
On the other hand, the Lightning Bolt's damage law works the exact opposite.
The Mana used in each charge remain the same; however, the damage of each bolt decreases with each bolt. This does not mean that the Lightning Bolt is a lower level magic. Lightning Elemental Magic causes a chain reaction depending on the surrounding environment, something that is unique to the Lightning Bolt.
This law is important in that it helps you gauge the relationship between the amount of Mana and Damage when using a Lightning Elemental Magic.
6. Conclusion
We have discussed about Elementals so far.
Elementals are different from basic elements, but it is a must for anyone studying magic.
A deep understanding of Elemental will allow your mind to expand greatly and enable you to be a better wizard.
