Huge Bug with G12

I just started training up cooking, and when I ranked up from F to E, I noticed that all of the requirements stayed the same. It said I still had to bake, and read a book on simmering, etc... However, I still get credit for simmering dishes, and eating simmered dishes, etc... it just says I baked those dishes, and unhid the "eat a simmered dish" part that was hidden for rank F... Did this just happen with the G12 update, or has this bug been around beforehand? --Yuuka 06:57, 22 October 2010 (PDT)

Ok, its badly glitched... when I read the book for kneading, it counted it as making a Mixed dish, and only .5 exp. Its impossible to rank from E to D until this is fixed. --Yuuka 07:49, 22 October 2010 (PDT)
Readding this from when wiki rolled back... --Yuuka 17:01, 23 October 2010 (PDT)

The game is bugged. I first noticed the glitch the day before the G12 update. One of my alts is stuck because he's read the book in detail and received the 0.50 point credit for mixing a dish. Three tickets to Nexon Customer Service has yielded me a response that leads me to believe that the issue is not being taken seriously. I've made an edit to the wiki advising of this glitch. I wish cooking was a little more mainstream- the issue might be handled by now. I placed the ticket the day before the update, FYI. -- Jspillers | (Talk) 17:22, 27 October 2010 (PDT)

Nexon has announced that the cooking bug from E to D is being fixed in today's update. -- Jspillers | (Talk) 00:01, 10 November 2010 (PST)

Got Gordan's secret shop with only 25 rings, and he sells ALL the books that you need for cooking. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Js16 (talkcontribs) . Please always sign your comments with the Signature.png button or by typing ~~~~!

Does anyone know the dex milestones that are required to reduce the oscillations of the cooking mini-game meter? --Anachronism 06:47, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

It is easy to restart, And I usually cook randomly in transformation, making it very stable, but in my opinion very slow. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sentoushien (talkcontribs) . Please always sign your comments with the Signature.png button or by typing ~~~~!

Cooking bug fixed

As of 3/1/09 when we were cooking for the heck of it, we noticed that the boiling recipes required boiling and simmering recipes required simmering. So it looks like those are fixed. Unless anyone knows of any recipes that don't work still? --Vinfang 04:18, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

It was not a bug, they switched it and I switched all the recipes. And I saw steamed milk in a shop so I guess all the drinks are in. -Fifty 05:44, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

video

I think a video might be really useful to show what's going on with this skill, re: the minigame. And/or the food cutscenes.--ladywinter ~{talk page}~ 09:39, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

Dex gain

Table at the top says +2 for each rank past 7, while the r6 section at the bottom says +3. Clarification/fix? Xmasreturns 08:15, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

New Books

There are 2 new books that came out with G11. (r7) The Story of a Devoted Son and (r6) Pastry Discussion Vol.1: Pie. Glewyas sells these books. I tried to add it on, but I ended up screwing up the formating, so I undo'd my edit.

Someone add it please~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rukii (talkcontribs) . Please always sign your comments with the Signature.png button or by typing ~~~~!

Training Tips

Does anyone have any tips on what to cook or eat, using readily available ingredients/food (sold by NPCs, gatherable, and whatnot) or doesn't require too much effort to get?

Infodude575 (talk)10:59, 8 May 2014

Since we are now supporting the creation of user made guides, if the person who is answering would like to, they can make a guide as a subpage of their user page and add it to the User Guides category.

Blargel (talk)11:25, 8 May 2014

I'd like a ===Tips=== on this page, too...

I go by what costs least and is considerably easier to make. Food requiring Bottled Water is usually good, mainly because in Dunby there's a well right next to the cooking oven.

Grilled Shellfish is pretty easy for Baking requirements.

Simmered Beans, if you have a Dull Weeding Hoe or Steamed Potatoes for Simmering.

Fry Batter is the one for Kneading I use mainly because Deep Fry Batter costs 10g and I just have to collect eggs and stand near a well for that. Keep the Fry Batter, because you're going to need it for Deep Frying.

Basil Tea for Boiling.

Somen Noodles for Noodle making. The only thing that takes actual effort to get is the Wheat Flour.

Fried Chicken Wing for Deep frying, which is why you need to keep the Fry Batter you make using Kneading.

Fried Button Mushrooms, if you want to gather mushrooms, or Pasta Ingredients, you can buy all the necessities from NPCs so yeah, for Stir Frying.

Pasta Making sadly has no easy way. You're forced to gather wheat. Though the tip I do give is to make a certain number of Pasta Dough, then use the Pasta Dough to make Long Pasta.

Grape Jam is considerably easy for Jam Making. But Grape prices annoy me slightly. Chocolate is another option. Juniper Jelly is also fairly easy.

Pie Making also requires more effort, because of Flour. But making Tart Crusts is easier than Pan Pie Crust.

Steaming is still something I haven't thought of yet. I don't even have high rank cooking, just preparing myself to train the skill lol.

Though, this is the list of things to make if Ingredient Gathering can't get me enough ingredients.

Edit: I should make that user-page.

It would also be nice to do so for Tasting.

Personally, I find it best, maybe because I'm just lazy, to avoid doing dishes that require Water. Here is my priority:

  • The dish with Flour is worse than the dish with Water. The dish with water is worse than the dish without water. (Some ranks this is a must, like pasta, noodles, pie.)
  • Assuming the two previous points are precedent, the dish with two ingredients is better than the dish with three ingredients.
  • The cheaper dish is better than the expensive dish.

This being said, personally, a 2 ingredient dish that costs 150g to make is better than a 3 ingredient dish that takes 75g to make because it requires less effort. MUST AVOID EFFORT. And a 3 ingredient dish that costs 5,000g is better than a two ingredient dish that involves Flour and Water. Flour must be avoided at all costs if possible. It requires 10 wheat or barely, they do not stack very high. It takes a while to get even with r1 harvesting. And the success rate of milling is way too low. In addition, flour does not stack.

Not really a guide of what to make and what rank but this is a miniguide as to what I usually looked at when ranking cooking and tasting.

Kapra - (Talk)01:38, 9 May 2014

You can't really avoid making flour. Pie Making, Pasta Making and Noodle Making all require flour making. Unless you want to buy it off players or get a flour making slave. But I'm not made of money, yo!

Some three ingredient dishes can be easier, it depends on the percentage of each ingredient. Steamed Potato is stupid.

Nise Panda (talk)05:12, 9 May 2014

Yea, I just avoid flour when I can but there are ranks where it is mandatory. And if you're really too lazy, you can be semi-hypocritical and spam kitchen dungeon for flour instead of gathering/producing if that is less monotonous to you.

Also something I forgot to mention, if you have a cooking experience reforged tool, equip it when reading the book for extra experience.

Kapra - (Talk)13:53, 9 May 2014

Tasting, you can just NOM NOM NOM carrots and mix Bread Crumbs.

Add More Stat Types to Current Food Info Template?

Since there are now foods that directly give stats such as Max Damage, Min Damage, Magic Attack, Magic Defense, and Magic Protection, will the template be updated to allow for these to be more easily added? I'm not sure how to note such stats otherwise, aside from making a note at the bottom of the food's page.

Iyasenu (talk)22:29, 11 November 2018

FreeSkillAcquire

Or,

Or,

  • Complete the quest The Basics of Cooking.
    • Your Cooking skill will be raised to Rank F, without spending 3 AP.

Two of the three methods listed here skip direcctly to rank F, which means you don't spend waste AP on rN>F which makes it FreeSkillAcquire (along with the obvious fourth method of using a card with the Master Chef Talent), but one of the methods does put you at rank N which means you would have to pay to get it up to rank F. So, would this page be categorized under FreeSkillAcquire or not?

On a related note, if you have rank novice cooking and use on of the two other methods before manually ranking it up to rank F, will the quests put you at rank F cooking or would it expect you to rank it yourself?

Anyone taking on the major overhaul...?

Well, ok, maybe not major, just adding all the new items and stats and recipes and used in... stuff...

Just don't want to make new pages and mess up any organization someone else is trying to do @.@; But I will if needed o.ov

Elide (talk)18:35, 2 May 2014

Just to add on to this, a lot of items were renamed. Somebody incorrectly made a page for Ripe Pumpkin instead of renaming Aged Pumpkin.

Kapra - (Talk)12:44, 3 May 2014

Ah, thank you for the heads up - Nexon enjoys making wiki-updates more difficult orz

Elide (talk)16:52, 3 May 2014

This page also needs to be updated; new UI image, new UI details, how Tasting affects cooking, etc.

Infodude575 (talk)13:21, 3 May 2014

Tasting only adds tasting quality, so the only thing that would need to be changed is the formula. Nothing else should be changed besides mentioning the preview portion of the UI. Stats of food from Tasting and Catering are irrelevant here.

Kapra - (Talk)16:56, 3 May 2014

Tasting also increases the cooking meter's stability and increases EXP gained from successful cooking products.

5 Star food randomized?

I've just come back from a long break from mabi, and i've taken up cooking again. Apparently getting 100% accurate meter is not enough to get 5 star food (confirmed as a few dishes I carry around that i KNEW were 5 star before the update are now 4 star). So is getting 5 star now based on luck and/or cooking skill rank?

Pyroblade07:37, 27 May 2012

hidden value

Would anyone happen to know the minimal hidden quality value needed for 3 star, 4 star and 5 star cooking?

Laden14:20, 19 May 2012

I've been away from mabinogi for a while and it seems so much harder to get 5 stars now. Is there a new way? or did they make it harder to get 5 stars just because?--Leyuu 21:40, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Leyuu13:40, 5 November 2011

They made it harder somewhere in G14.
