Food Quality

So I've been I've been cooking regularly before and after the Culinary Artist update, and I have been using a mod that allows me to look at food quality. Quality goes from 1 (0?) to 100 in which 100 is the best possible result and is usually the quality of every dish in the cooking journal. To get a 5-star dish you need to be 95~100 quality. Both before and after the update, you can have the ratios be 100% correct and still be as low as 80 quality, which is barely 4-star. Anything more than the 80 would be a random quality roll. According to the table on this page, ranking Tasting adds 15 quality. Apparently, I was the one to make that edit. I work with the Mabination KR Test Team and at the time I was adding in our findings in the Master Chef update. However, I've been searching private sections of the forums and been searching through Skype, asking people such as Kingofrunes who was the main contributor to our knowledge of the update and we have no idea where that 15 quality came from. If there was 15 quality, it would be noticeable. That would mean, with r6 cooking and r1 tasting, if you have spot on ratios you should get 5-star dishes 100% of the time, even higher if you had r5 cooking. I have been noticing the opposite. I still get 80 quality dishes, and quality does seem to have changed but not for the better, 5-star dishes seem even rarer. There is a possibility there really is a 15 quality increase and that they nerfed quality in the Culinary Artist update like how they did in G14S4 when they released the Cooking Journal. However, it didn't occur to me to test the quality values before ranking Tasting and of course, deranking would be costly. Can anyone test this for me or can anyone help contribute? At this point, I doubt there really is a 15 quality increase but it is possible they nerfed quality severely as well.

I've noticed no change in quality. I believe I'm still getting 5 star dishes at approximately the same rate as before after getting rank 5 cooking and rank 1 tasting.

This explains it perhaps?

Kapra - (Talk)14:09, 16 May 2014

Makes sense I guess. I can check that out later.

EDIT: Or I can just check now. I hit the fork as soon as I could so I think I should have 0 quality. With rank 1 tasting, I now have 15. Someone with no tasting should confirm by doing the same thing and seeing that they get 0 points.

Blargel (talk)14:54, 16 May 2014

Rank 9 tasting here. Got 7 points.

Meru (talk)15:13, 16 May 2014

Meru, have you noticed any changes to the quality of the dishes you produce with regular cooking?

Blargel (talk)15:19, 16 May 2014

I'm definitely getting more 5 stars for sure. Unless I'm really lucky. Got 5 in a row even. Before I'd be lucky to even get 1 in 30 perfect dishes. Just did 10 bread crumbs just now, which is the easiest dish ever, got 5 5star.

Meru (talk)15:36, 16 May 2014

And that was with rank 9 tasting? Strange. Our results are all over the place, lol.

Blargel (talk)16:22, 16 May 2014

Really? I've been cooking nonstop since the update with r5 cooking and r1 tasting (with a cooking ruler) and I've gotten like 5 5-stars out of hundreds. I used to get 1 5-star in every four dishes back before the Culinary Artist update.

Kapra - (Talk)17:27, 16 May 2014

Before the update, when I was cooking like 100 dishes a day for the r1 composing book that I still never got, I got maybe 1 5star every 50 or 60 dishes. Not getting any 3 star dishes like I used to. No cooking ruler or anything here.

Meru (talk)18:05, 16 May 2014

Actually, I don't recall ever getting a 3-star dish before this update. After this update I did get a 3-star dish (with no message saying you have x percent extra/less of something) but I only ever noticed getting one 3-star. (On a semirelated note, I wasn't even trying and accidentally got the r2 composing book from the monkeys on my first try, guess that has a lot to say about sporadic luck.)

Kapra - (Talk)19:47, 16 May 2014

I've gotten loads of 3 star perfects before. Maybe because I'm rank 7 cooking? Was r8 before patch.

Meru (talk)20:06, 16 May 2014

I was r6 before the patch, before the patch, the lowest quality I ever got was 80. According to Nexon America, 75 is the lowest possible quality to get 4-star. So, to get 3-star it would need to be 74 or lower, I doubt r7>r6 has a leap of over 6 quality, though it is possible. I might also have been wrong or overly lucky.

Kapra - (Talk)00:16, 17 May 2014

I can testify that this feature either doesn't exist, or is broke. Before the update I could see the quality, and had been using a cooking ruler as well. Whenever I measured perfectly I never got a dish below 80. Theoretically with the update there's a 1/5 chance to not get 5 stars, as 95 isn't 5 star. Now I do not get any change, and tested with Bread Crumbs, which are always perfect measurement no matter what. I had consistent 80s-90s at r1 Tasting. Had a friend with rN tasting make bread crumbs, same story. My guess is that this only applies to the Kitchen Dungeon. On second note it'd be very imbalanced and would make the cooking reforges broken, making people with them and rulers always get 100 quality and we'd just have a notification war between folks wanting their opinions on the cooking journal, and getting max on the journal would be a joke to boot.

Surrept (talk)16:42, 18 May 2014

I was constantly getting notification wars prior to this update, but I rarely get a 5-star dish now, much less a 100-quality one. I am certain something was changed to quality, not necessarily the Tasting skill having anything relevant to this.

Kapra - (Talk)16:49, 18 May 2014

I took another crack at it. Tested with 30 juniper jellies and 30 bread crumbs. I got 5 5-stars and 2 3-star with juniper jelly, and 4 5-star and 0 3-star with bread crumbs 0 3-stars. I'm assuming perfect means no words telling you there was too much or too little. It's still a bit better than what I've been getting from before the patch. Guess I was just really lucky that day or just unlucky right now. Darn random things.

Meru (talk)18:01, 18 May 2014

Very late to this discussion and none of you are probably even going to see this, but perhaps the way the quality increase works is that there's a cap of 100 quality, and the bonus from Tasting is added immediately before the quality from the cooking process? Or in other words, with rank 1 Tasting you're guaranteed to get a minimum of 15 quality on everything you cook, but if you were to cook a dish that's say, 90 quality, you'd total out at 105 which gets lowered to 100 and then the random aspect is applied. This might explain why there doesn't seem to be any effect? It's being overwritten by the other aspects of Cooking, it appears. I'm just speculating though since I haven't gone in-depth with it like some of you have!
