Talk:Elven Magic Missile

From Mabinogi World Wiki

Why is there a wand section for this skill?--Babohtea 01:15, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

What do you mean? --Kevin 01:16, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
Ahh, sorry. Didn't notice that it was left blank for a reason: because nobody has any idea? I was just wondering if the wand damage would be calculated by spell damage or by the wands actual physical damage?--Babohtea 01:22, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
It seems that it is effected by physical damage and wands have incredibly low physical damage. I cannot seem to break 3 damage with a wand magic missile. The combination of the same elemental wand and magic missile (ie: fire wand + fire attack) has no increased effect. Maybe having the corresponding advanced magic learned will cause wand magic missile to be more useful? My elf does not have any advanced magic. --Dias 20:00, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Using a Lightning Wand with Rank E Magic Missile while having thunder still did around 3 damage. Although this was awhile ago so I may be off. --Tylian 17:47, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Have there been any reports of Magic Missile doing reasonable damage? My character has Magic Missile trained to Rank 9, and does 22 damage with it at best. It seems wiser to just smack the enemy on the head with a wand than use Magic Missile with it. --Zkin 15:04, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
It may be only useful in conjunction with a ego wand, which will have pretty substantial damage, depending on it's multiplier for wands. --ReibuOrumai 09:58, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

I have a fire wand ego weapon (15 social, 20 strength, (22~38 weapon attack)) and with rank F magic missile, I hit 1~3 damage on brown foxes. I even tried maybe if I charge up a bolt magic before using magic missile, something may happen. I fully charged my rank 1 firebolt then charged up magic missile with the fire slice. Nothing, same low damage. --Dias 15:36, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Glitch

There is a glitch with this skill when u use the fire one... According to Alexom, who showed me this glitch, If u shoot the fire one EXTREMELY CLOSE to u, it will create a fireball that lasts there until a sever check takes place. I don't know if it does damage to anything touching it though. Efansay0 08:17, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

A few days ago in a Peaca, a Red Ghost Fireballed us when we were messing around with it right on top of us. The fireball just hovered there menacingly about a foot off the ground. Kinda funny. BladeBlade 10:35, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Not true, it doesn't really exist, as when you relog it's gone.--恒升  评论  11:20, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Element

I've heard that having a weapon enchanted with a specific element increases the size of that element's slice on the spinning wheel. Can someone confirm this?--Kong 05:32, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

When using a wand of any type, the affiliated element on the pie is enlarged. Ie, the ice slice is larger when using an ice wand.

At base, each slice is a 3rd of the wheel. When using a wand, the slice is enlarged to almost half the wheel, but not exactly. I also tried it using an ice wand enchanted with ice element. This made the slice about 5/8 the wheel. This was a while ago, so my numbers and/or approximations may be a little off. With an elemental-enchanted bow, I noted no difference in the size of the slices.--Demaetri 06:57, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Wand Damage

Maybe this skill takes the damage range from the weapon you're using and applies the Rank-based damage increase to it? That would explain why wands do very little damage with this skill, it's because they naturally do low melee damage.-- Tylian (TALK · CONTRIB) 07:21, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

The wand damage seems to use the default magic formula, however the input for magic damage always returns null (elven magic missile does not have magic damage), so it always does next to no damage. I think its supposed to do this, much like using Giant full swing with the wrong weapon yields a fairly pitiful effect. Tellos 01:52, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

...so I'm doing my melee Damage...114:18, 28 March 2014
Why is this so horrible with a wand...?1507:59, 22 July 2013

...so I'm doing my melee Damage...

With Ice Elven magic Missile. Turns out it depends on weapon equipped (My case Francisca), which is why wand is so terrible. I accidently loaded smash during the Ice Elven magic missile's standby after impact...I also heard sound effects of Axe hits rather than Bow.

...I found it a little strange too that I hit around 2K on crit :s with my Fran, rather than anything else.

I also want to point out the skill seems to spit out random damage numbers after switching weapon before the hits actually occur. Mostly low numbers, but better than wands...a lot better.

Why is this so horrible with a wand...?

doing 3~6 damage at rank 7

Probably had some changes in the damage formula after magic damage was implemented?

Pretty sure it was always like that... Unless the G8 change messed it up.

Pyro - (Talk)21:18, 30 June 2012

Before G8 I did like 3x as much as what I listed...

S•A•R•I•A21:20, 30 June 2012

Just how did G8 affect EMM?

Infodude57521:26, 30 June 2012

I'm not quite sure about either...I figured out why I did 2x as much, not 3. max charged...lol x.x;;

Reading this up again and noticed that it would be nice if Devcats update this part of the magic missile and make wands more unique to it.

Maybe make it more magic oriented so it draws 100% of the power from magic skills, ice/fire/lightning mastery + icebolt/firebolt/lightningbolt + icespear/fireball/thunder, and add it into the base damage pool and multiply it with magic missile's rank...

So each rank of each elemental skill represents a base value and the higher you have that rank on, the more base damage it'll have.

So in the end the idea is that once you fully master all magic skills for all 3 elements, you'll do more damage than high physical with r1 magic missile on a bow, if you use it with a wand.

Maybe magic consumption is increased for using wand, but can be reduced from the wand's mana consumption upgrades.

In g16s2, EMM was updated giving it a max range of 2000, and changing wand damage. [1]

Nomad Trooper (talk)00:30, 22 October 2012

Unless we didn't get the "nerf" along with g16s2, values of EMM haven't changed at all.

Was the wand damage buffed I hope? If it was nerfed, there is no hope for DevCAT. . .

Pyro - (Talk)00:49, 22 October 2012

Range was always 2000. Even back in r86.

I'm bring this back up due to the stat rebalancing patches overseas...Is EMM still garbage with wands?

まそっぷ ! (talk)06:47, 22 July 2013

I haven't tested with my Elf since it has Rank F EMM, but I think it's only strong on wands when you select the respective element for the wand (e.g. Fire Wand and land on Fire) unless that does absolutely nothing, and also apparently if you let it charge nearing the end it does more damage, similar to GFS's Number of Round Swings, so try "charging" it as long as possible before automatic cancellation. It could also be that since EMM acts on percentage similar to Smash it can't be translated with Magic Damage and therefore you get low damages. Or unless it uses a different mechanism but as you can see no one bothered to check for the percentage on wands.

鍾国豪-BIassreiter (talk)07:48, 22 July 2013

r1 and still hitting 10s...not even. throwing that out there right now.

まそっぷ ! (talk)07:49, 22 July 2013

I guess despite it being a Magic Skill it does not get the full multiplier of the skill when using Wands, similar to GFS with non 2 Handed Blunt Weapons. Although 10's at Rank 1 is more horrible than GFS with non 2H Blunts...

鍾国豪-BIassreiter (talk)07:52, 22 July 2013

They coulda have at least given out half damage...or even 25%...
