Rafting

From Mabinogi World Wiki
A player steering the raft.

Basic Information

Rafting.png

Rafting is a mini-game that involves piloting a flat vessel while also fighting monsters down the Suytu River. At La Terra Highlands in the northwestern part of Courcle, talk to the Native NPC at the dock to "rent" a raft for free.

The raft follows a route that begins at La Terra Highlands and ends in two terminal stations. One is located in Lappa, on the way to the Erkey Falls and the other is south of Cor village.

Steering

The steering interface seen when on the rudder (Right Interface shown).
  • To steer, click on one of the rudders at the back of the raft. Your character will start steering and will be unable to use any other skills.
    • If you click on the rudder while your character is 10 years old, you'll get "who Paddled at 10" title.
  • Two players may steer at once.
  • Click and hold the arrow of the direction you want to turn the raft to steer it.
  • Click the icon, above your character, at any time to cancel steering. Pressing the Esc-key can also cancel steering.
    • You will automatically stop steering when attacked by a monster.
  • Steering the raft will consume 1 stamina per second. You need at least 1 point of stamina to begin steering.
    • Steering will continue even after your stamina reaches 0.

Docks and Rest Points

The Rest Point or dock. It has 3 berths.

Docks and Rest Points are the stations where the player may either ride the raft or to leave the mini-game. Every dock has the Native NPC.

  • If the raft is close enough to any of the wharfs it will automatically slow down and move towards it. At the end of the mini-game or while approaching any terminal, the raft will steer itself to dock.
  • To dock, steer towards the platform and click on the berth.
  • To avoid docking, keep steering away from any station down the River.
    • If the raft stays berthed for more than 2 minutes and 30 seconds it will disappear.
      • If any player stays on the raft, while docked, they will be warped back to the starting point at La Terra Highlands.
  • Any stowaway monster on the raft will disappear when the raft docks.

Map

Rafting Map. The blue circle is the starting point, and red circles are the stops. Red dots are enemy clusters found while rafting
  • If the player wants to enter Erkey Falls, take a right turn ahead of the junction where the river splits. The player must steer towards the direction of the other stream and avoid the dock.
    • Docking to the wharf at Lappa will not allow the player to ride back down the waterfall.
  • Alternatively the player can use the Traveler's Guide Menu to get to Collapsed Mana Tunnel.

The Hobgoblins

While riding down the Suytu River many versions of the Hobgoblin will attack the player along the way. Fight and steer to earn rewards.

  • Hobgoblins will only appear at Suytu's banks when the player is inside the Rafting mini-game. The player may encounter other Hobgoblins at Lappa or while discovering hidden artifacts.
  • Hobgoblin Warriors may jump onto the raft and use melee against players.
    • When alone they may attack one at the time.
  • Hobgoblin Bowmen and Hobgoblin Exorcists will shoot from the river banks.
    • Any unarmed Hobgoblins of the same type will also cast a Magic Shield; they are weaker than the others and are good to take out first.

Strategies

  • Going rafting alone will earn more Stars.
  • It is best to have either a high-ranked intermediate magic skill or a good Ranged Attack/Throwing Attack set-up.
  • When charging any skill, doing it in advance is highly recommended to ensure not getting disrupted by any Hobgoblin skills.
  • If things get rough, use the Playing Dead action.

Magic

  • Fireball and Thunder are optimal ways of dealing damage during Rafting; the Hobgoblins tend to be bunched up on the river banks, making these skills ideal.
    • Fireball and Thunder have a range of 2000.
    • Due to Thunder's standby time after the initial hit, it is possible to hit airborne Hobgoblin Warriors as they land onto the raft.

Archery

  • For rangers, the character should have the Reserved Attack Option turned off and start aiming as soon as they can see the next group of monsters. Even out of range, the aim meter will still go up as the raft gets closer into range.
    • However, it is not recommended for rangers to shoot immediately when entering range.
      • The game client can give the impression of being in-range before the game server believes the player actually is, possibly causing immediate ranged attacks to miss.
  • Crash Shot is a fast way to defeat all Hobgoblins in a small area at once.

Close Combat

  • In larger Parties, players without ranged options can still provide support by taking out any Hobgoblins that jump onto the Raft.
    • Additionally, anyone can navigate the Raft or support through the use of Healing or Bard skills.

Rewards

  • Killing Hobgoblins rewards Stars and Exploration EXP.
  • Hobgoblins reward 1 Star on death.
    • Stars will be split equally among all party members. (e.g. you will only get ⅓ of a star for one kill in a party of 3.)
    • Only whole Stars will be counted; any partial stars will be ignored when determining reward (e.g. 12 ¾ stars will rounded down to 12 stars).
Star.png One star.
Big Star.png Five normal Stars are one Big Star.
  • Earning 20 Stars (4 Big Stars) by the end of the ride will earn the player "the Chief Mate" title.
  • The player may exchange their Stars to any Native NPC at any of the docks or Rest Points. The player will receive an equivalent number of Stars, in their inventory.
  • If the player does not turn in their Stars (appearing over their head), they may keep as long as the player does not wander out of the Courcle area, log off, change channels, or enter another raft.
  • Once turned in for items, the Stars can remain in the inventory for up to 3 real-days.
  • All Stars can be kept for the time limit if the trade window is opened and then closed without buying anything.
  • Exploration EXP is not received directly from the Native. The only item that will reward Exploration EXP is the Elephant Statue. They can be exchanged through Voight for 2,920 Exploration EXP each.
    • The statues can be traded throughout an account via pets and bank.
    • Hobgoblins give 50 Exploration EXP per kill. (Monsters must be Normal or above in CP to obtain the EXP)
