Blacksmithing.png
This skill is required when creating an item by using metal ingots. It involves melting ingots and pouring the ore into a mold, then hammering, heating, and cooling it. Once you thoroughly learn this skill, you can make weapons. But, in order to use this skill, you will need an Anvil to beat the heated metal.

Details

  • Allows the player to forge Armor, Weapons, and some Tools. Please see the Blacksmithing List for a list of items that can be forged by Blacksmithing.
  • Requires a Blacksmith Hammer and Blacksmith Manual equipped and the player near an Anvil in order to use this skill.
  • Starting at Rank 9, items produced will have the player's name on it.
  • If an unfinished item is dropped on the ground, it cannot be picked up by other players, and will disappear within a certain amount of time unless the original creator picks it up again. However, unfinished items can be traded between players.

  • When creating an item by Blacksmithing, the player must first "complete" the item to 99.9% by repeatedly using the skill and supplying materials for that item. Successes will increase the completion meter, and likewise failures may decrease the completion meter. After reaching 99.9%, the player is then prompted to "finish" the item by using specific finishing materials. This last step requires a player to complete a minigame.
  • Your cursor will be a small diamond with a hammer to the top right of that diamond.
    • Certain Blacksmithing levels reduce the size of the white box to "hit" with, increasing accuracy.
  • Five red dots with anvil symbols will float around for approximately ten seconds. When they stop, "hit" each one by clicking on them with your mouse once.
    • You have a total of five hits (one for each red dot), after which the minigame ends.
    • Each hit has a bar gauge that fills up over time.
      • Hits should be performed when the bar is in the green section.
      • The speed at which the bar fills up can vary from one hit to another.
      • The goal is to hit the X as accurately as possible and as close as to a full bar without going over per hit.
        • One of two sound effects will play whether you hit it accurately, or missed the hit by a small space or missing it entirely.
  • The quality of the finished item is determined by two factors:
    • How well each hit is aligned with the center of each of the 5 red dots.
    • How well the hit was timed in the green section.

Finishing Color

  • All equipments produced will be of a random color.
    • The item's final color is determined when the first successful bit of work is completed on it.
    • The player can choose to finish with a Copper, Silver, or Gold Ingot to produce items of a Red, Silver, and Gold Color, respectively. This overrides the predetermined color.

The following is used as an example. The actual color may vary from equipment to equipment.


Blacksmithing Equipment Grades

  • Blacksmithing grades S+ and X are currently not attainable through crafting in any version of Mabinogi.
  • The following table shows how much the stats of the equipment increases at which grade.
  • Players with Smithing as their active talent will receive a slight stat boost on their blacksmithed equipment.
    • Weapons made through Blacksmithing will have an additional 1 Minimum Damage and 2 Maximum Damage.
    • Shields made through Blacksmithing will have an additional 1 Defense.
    • Armor made through Blacksmithing will have an additional 1 Protection.
    • Helmets, gauntlets, and boots made through Blacksmithing will have an additional 1 Durability.
  • Players with the Blacksmithing Grandmaster talent unique effect will receive a slight stat boost on their blacksmithed equipment.
    • Weapons made through Blacksmithing will have an additional 1 Minimum Damage and 1 Maximum Damage.
    • Shields made through Blacksmithing will have an additional 1 Defense.
    • Armor made through Blacksmithing will have an additional 1 Protection.
    • Helmets, gauntlets, and boots made through Blacksmithing will have an additional 1 Durability.

  • "Achieve a good result forging a tool or a weapon." requires the manual's rank to be no more than one rank below the player's Blacksmithing rank.
  • To "Achieve a great result forging a tool or a weapon.", the manual must be at least 2 ranks higher than the player's skill rank.

Tips

  • Part-time Jobs offered by Edern can help ease training as he provides a manual and its materials.
    • If your blacksmithing rank is under Rank 9, Edern will always assign a part-time job that gives you skill experience if you have access to those jobs For example, if you are rank B and have access to his intermediate part-time jobs, you will always be given a job to make boots.
      • If your Part-time Job is not high enough (e.g. less than 51 (Basic) will only get you as far as helmets), you will be given random jobs from the part-time job status you currently hold until you obtain a higher number/percent of successfully completed jobs.
      • After you reach rank 9, Edern will always give you random jobs, no longer providing you with specific jobs that give skill experience regardless of the number of successful part-time jobs you have done as your rank is now higher than that of Advanced.
  • It is recommended to use a Blacksmith Hammer that has a blacksmith exp bonus. This can be acquired with a Reforging Tool and a blacksmith hammer.
